|

I imagine this is not done, but am checking - do people ever complete a 1-year GEPIK contract- then stay on while not under contract? Or, stay on with a sub-1-year contract?
I imagine almost certainly not, but I'm asking as I do not want to stay another year, but a shorter period longer would be very convenient, so checking just in case. |

You can work something out with your school for the benefit of both parties.
You can't teach without your work visa, that's for sure. |

You can't have a visa without a contract. In the vast majority of cases, a public employer will not go for a contract of less than a year. It can't hurt to try though... if your school really likes you, they may try and convince the 'higher ups' to extend your contract for for a shorter period. |

I knew a guy who after completing a 12 month contract stayed at the school for an additional 3 or 4 months (not sure exactly). He was on a short contract and had his visa (E2) extended. But, as Cruisemonkey said, you cant have a visa without a contract (unless it's an F series) and you cant work without a visa. |

People get 6 month extensions at public school all the time, although we're apparently not supposed to tell people that. I doubt that they'll let you extend for less than a full semester, but 6 months is completely do-able (assuming your school wants to keep you). Just call your coordinator and tell them what you want. |

That's your local GEPIK coordinator. Where are you teaching at?
Haven't you been to an orientation, yet? |

A friend of mine in GEPIK tried to extend for 6 months recently. The school really loved him and they were trying to get him to renew for another year, but he was adamant about only staying 6 months. They apparently tried talking to the GEPIK administrators but they said there is no way a teacher can extend for 6 months.
So can anyone with connections actually confirm whether or not its possible to extend? I would be interested in extending for 6 months, but I don't understand whether or not it is possible.
It seems reasonable. Why is extending 6 months such a big deal? You'd think they could make a deal with the teacher, such as no vacation time for 6 months or maybe skip the paid home leave? |

Oh right...we talked via emails when I was hired I believe, though I think she has since changed positions. I think I went to an orientation...if that's what it was.
I suppose I don't think about there being a coordinator, as I would always just bring anything to my school directly |
