Anyone heard about this? My girlfriend is planning to move out of her apartment soon but couldn't hire a moving company because the day she's moving happens to be one of the days people consider "lucky." So there are apparently tons of people moving on that day. This is the first time I've heard something like this. It shouldn't, but it still amazes me people in our time believe in weird superstitions like this. I wonder what's the criteria a day needs in order for it to become lucky.

In Montreal there is an actual "moving day" -- July 1st (coincidentally, Canada Day) Rolling Eyes

It is a HUGE hassle to get movers anywhere around that time, and the closer you get to July 1st moving date, the more movers charge. There are advantages and disadvantages to it, I guess.

Can she move a different day? Why does she have to move that day exactly?

My girlfriend's mother went to a fortune teller to check whether the day I last moved house was lucky =) Luckily, it was. Otherwise I would have had to have chosen another day.

I would tempt fate then by asking for the heavily discounted "unluckiest day" special!

My friend's mom (buddhist, but not Korean) is definately a believer in lucky/unlucky days. She wouldn't even let the kids close their businesses on the Asian New Year because the day after would be unlucky for "reopening" so all the kids had to work for like two hours....

At least they didn't have to work the full day. Smile

She checks for all things. Weddings, house warming parties, working, travel, etc. I don't know for sure, but she probably checked about moving too.

My co-worker was forced by circumstance to move on a "lucky day". It was so lucky that the moving company charged 200,000 won extra for moving on that day.
So i guess it was lucky....for the moving company.

There are lucky and unlucky days for everything in this country.

Weddings. moving. promotions, business openings...the list goes on and on. My favorite was the woman who was in the hospital next to my wife in the maternity area (higher risk stuff). She got a doctor to come in and give her an emergency c-section cause her kid might have been born on 4/4/2008. Heavens to bid a kid be born on the 4th day of the 4th month. So what does the doctor do? He gives her a semi-risky surgery just to shut her up.

Korea sparkling.

I've also heard about that happening (well, inducing, not c-section specifically) right before the lunar new year if the traits of the upcoming animal were not favorable. Of course, these were only in cases when the baby was 35+ weeks to term.
