Hello all!

I am currently applying for a teaching position in South Korea for the coming school year. The process has been trying, especially considering some hangups I had with Ohio Law and Background checks/notarizing issues, but it was all ironed out. Anyway, I had all my documents in order, the background check and diploma photocopy apostilled, and I went to make my copies to send out the application package.

When I got home, after sending out the package to my recruiter, I noticed that the background check and diploma photocopy, which were essentially three sheets stapled together, looked like the original documents had been separated when the lady photocopied them. They were restapled in the original position, but upon inspecting the copies it's clear that she did not fold the papers and copy each one, but rather removed the staples and copied each page separately.

I am extremely worried this has nullified my documents....I'm not sure if that qualifies as "tampering" or not, especially since it was just a standard staple and whatnot. But I'm looking for some advice or experience in this issue, because I am wary of going through the notarizing/clerk signature/apostille process all over again! (Please, no!)

Any advice is appreciated....thank you in advance!

Shannon, it might be helpful if you say what kind of job you're applying for. Hagwon or public school? And are the documents you sent for a job application or a visa issuance application? Those are two different steps in the process and are handled differently for the type of school (private or public) that you are going for.

I'm applying for a public school position, and the documents are for the job application procedure. They're all going to my recruiter, who will then help me get the interview with the agency in South Korea. Hope that helps! Thanks for the reply!

I don't think a small issue like having the staples removed will qualify as document 'tampering'. If they ask about it, tell them truthfully what had happened and that should be the end of it. One of my reference letters that my professor had written was accidently opened by my dad, yet it was still accepted by the school. You should be fine, just restaple the documents in their original state and you should be good to go.

I'm afraid it can be declared null if the original staple is removed. You might be able to get by with it though. Who knows.
