Very good film. Some of the action scenes had Peter Jackson written all over them. So similar to his early splatter horror/comedies. |

I had seen it before, but on my laptop so I wanted to see it as it should be seen.
Saw it tonight and there ARE english subs for the alien parts so no worries there. Just cross your fingers for inglorious basterds. |

Saw it yesterday. It was awesome. I have to admit it probably won't appeal to everybody. It is somewhat original in comparison to all the garbage Hollywood usually churns out. There's plenty of action (Blomkamp is a superb action director), the special affects are pretty damn good considering the budget, and the acting it surprisingly good. Apparently the main character isn't even a professional actor. The documentary/news style is also refreshing.
I actually went in thinking it would be a more of a drama that focused on the social issues presented by having aliens on earth but they didn't really get deep into that aspect. In that aspect I was a little disappointed because I was hoping for a deeper movie. The movie is also quite bloody. I didn't mind it but at times I thought it went overboard.

The alien language and some of the african dialects have english subtitles. The korean subtitles are on the side. Can't wait to see IG as well. [/quote] |

I had really high expectations of it before I went to go see it. I went yesterday and walked out of it after about 50 minutes. The hand held camerawork in combination with the realistic gore made me almost ill. I've never had a problem with graphic content in a movie before, either. A few people just before me walked out as well.
I'd like to download it when it gets released so I can finish watching it. |

The movie was very good (not exactly Citizen Kane or anything) but anyone who thinks it was bad, or even forgettable, is a moron. |

I watched this awhile ago, i found it a bit cliched. I wonder if the sequel will be the aliens returning in X years bent on revenge. Anyways, isn't it common sense seeing his state at the end that he'd basically change into a full Prawn? And damn, i want one of those mechs. |
Returning? They never left - unless they changed the ending... |

I can think of a few criticisms for District 9, but boring is not one of them.

I'm assuming he's talking about Christopher and his son. Remember Christopher promised Vickas to that he'll come back? |

I had to leave the theater a few times to walk around because I was getting so sick from the jerky cameras. I would have left for good had I not been with other people. |

True enough, I was a bit distracted by the bumpy, over-obvious camera work at the beginning. I guess it was to emphasize the contrast with the documentary-style interviews, but it was certainly verging on over-done for me too, although I never felt ill.
As for the realistic gore, yeah, that's just Peter Jackson's style. Got to say, as someone who prefers to eat vegetarian food, I thought it was highly hilarious and I really enjoyed the raw meat and cat-food scenes, especially coming as they did interspersed between the splatter-gun shots. Hope all you carnivores also enjoyed the irony! |
