|

So I did a search a found a few threads about shipping into South Korea from the USA, but wanted to ask since they weren't the most clear on the best way and I can't find the info I need on the korean (english) customs site.
First though, what I have read from many threads:
Laptops have a 10% fee to import into Korea
Don't use fedex/UPS since the USPS is about the same speed but much lower price
Open the box beforehand and mark it as "Used", "Gift", "For use at work"
Use the smallest box possible
Declare a lesser value on the box for the laptop (though the caveat is that you can only insure it up to this value)
So any thoughts? I payed about 600 for it and will be shipping it from the states (parent's house) in a week or so. I'm looking for the cheapest way to get it into the country.
Also, is there any sort of provision for receiving gifts duty free to korea (via shipping)? I couldn't find any info on this. |

I had my original laptop stolen and got a new one shipped out from Australia. I think it cost me about 100 dollars Australian to send it express post with insurance from there. I had to wait a little longer because of customs not contacting me with their queries about the laptop. They called and I had to say that it was used and that my parents had bought it for me. I didn't have to pay any tax on it because of this. |

My nightmare:
1: My sister paid $100 to send my USED laptop to me from China 3 months ago.
2: I was asked to pay $200 for the tax, later I paid $40, after a long bargaining.
3: The hard disk was broken 2 weeks after it came to me. (Hard disk is easily broken while shipping) So I had to spend another $100 to buy a new hard disk.
$400 for my used laptop visiting me...given another $200, I could buy a brand new~! |

Just buy one in Korea. Plenty bargans to be had out there. They will have no trouble setting it into english for you.
No need to ship coal to newcastle. |
