As Woz recently said "Just Think", as an update to Apple's original "think different" motto.

And that is fitting advice for people who still buy Apple Computers.

Keep in mind, my dad worked for Apple Canada and we had the Apple IIe in 1982. We also had Macintosh and a slew of other apple computers as we got all this stuff for free. We were the 1st family in canada to have a laser printer, it was the price of a car. ahhh, some things never change!

So I can safely say. STOP BUYING APPLE COMPUTERS

I bought a Dell Inspiron 1210 (12 inch netbook) at Costco korea for 250,000won.. It is the demo/display model. It is a simple internet surfing machine - that's it! My friend bought Apple Macbook for 1,600,000won - an internet surfing machine.

If you have heard of cost benefit analysis, and you apply it - you'd never buy this macbook! Just buy a PC and load OSX snow leopard on it. A relatively easy task.

With the advent of FREE firewalls like COMODO and ZONEALARM... you don't need ANY antivirus programs and barely need a spyware cleaner.
Just install it and change the settings to MAKE MY COMPUTER INVISIBLE.. that's it, Windows will have similar security to OSX. And it cost $0.

The soon-to-be released Apple TABLET (iphone on steroids) will be cool. And it will be 3x overpriced. So please use cost benefit analysis, okay??

I own a Macbook Pro and I installed Snow Leopard. Not bad at all. However, I partitioned the drive and installed Windows 7 and I find myself using that more. I also have a Hakintosh that I installed at no extra cost. I tend to use that mainly for Garage Band. Other than that, I can't really see the clear advantages of OS X.

I bought an iMac at Yongsan in 2006, and since then I have been unable to check my pension balance, reserve movie tickets, shop on Gmarket, or use Internet banking.

...awsome

Yes, Mac is not a good choice if you plan on using Korean internet at all.

I enjoy using my Macbook Pro. I just recently got a 3.06ghz 17-inch unit (matte screen option). It's nice and fast.

Occasionally, I have to use Internet Explorer to look at, or order from, GMarket. Plus, if my girlfriend is using Naver or Domino's website to order pizza, the html won't show up with full access in Firefox (even if you're using Windows). I use Parallels virtual machine for Windows access. I run it in Coherence mode, which makes the two OS's work seamlessly.

Also, GOM player is made exclusively for PCs, so again, when we're watching Medium (I'm addicted!) or Law and Order: SVU (again, addicted!) we have to use GOM Player because it's the only player that works with SMI files. I wish Koreans would put their subtitles file into SRT format. All other flicks I download on the internet use SRT format, not SMI. This mystifies me about Korean movies and tv shows, which use only SMI format. There must be a reason for it.

Windows is okay. It's useful to me perhaps 2 times a week. Besides that, I'm comfortable with Mac OS X with mp3s, videos, word processing, and making presentations (Mac Office 2008).

I haven't had any virus trouble with my Mac. With Windows, I had a lot of bloatware, adware, and sneaky background apps that installed themselves. This isn't a slam of Windows, though.

A few notes here. Microsoft Word crashes just as much as it does under Windows. I've taken to using Bean (freeware) and Apples Pages. Oh, yea, I have to use Windows when I'm working with Hangul 2007's HWP files. I've also found my MBP's built-in mic to record excellent audio for school projects and presentations.

I have no untoward feelings for Windows users. Whatever platform you use for your computing life is okay with me.

Sorry man, you just answered your question yourself, the reason they use SMI format is GOM Player. Also, I gotta say that GOM is my favourite media player hands down. It's like VLC but not ugly, and intuitive, with style.

Well, GOM supports SRT files. I don't see why Koreans don't use SRT files.

Actually, you can use Chroma for Mac. It plays all files and subtitles but you need to change the encoding options first. It's not free so have a look for it on the usual websites.

@OP:
now, I'm not a mac user. Haven't been since 2002(?) though I did recently teach my mom how to use the internet on OSX.
Whether I like it or not is irrelevant (I don't and will that likely make me a saint? no.) It's like blue jeans. Cheapo jeans get the job done as well as expensive ones. Jordache or Diesel, it's just a choice. I like jeans in the mid range. Why should I give a [edit] what you prefer?

subtitle workshop is great for changing subtitle formats. Doesn't work on macs but does mean you don't have to use gom player

I've only been an Apple user for 6 months, but I'll never go back. Got a nice imac, and I've never had any kind of problem with the machine yet. Nada, nothing, nyet. I just love the interface. I do banking from back home on it and almost everything else. If I can't do something on the machine, I'll just use the school's, but that is a rarity. Only thing I might change is getting a bigger keyboard. I do a lot of writing.

If u want to buy a mac to surf the net then, yes, a mac is very overpriced. No doubt it is a waste of money

It's like buying a seat in a fighter jet so can fly from LA to vegas.

If you're only using the net, then even your dell that you paid 250 000 won for is overpriced.

When buying Apple products, you're paying a premium for the benefits of ease of use and ultra compatibility of its products due to the vertical integration of the business model.

okay,

but if you want to play pc games or process multimedia you will need a macbook pro with video card. that's $2500!!! $2500 to play a pc game! It's so expensive that it would be better to buy a regular macbook and then buy a separate desktop pc with a graphics/video card - still cheaper than a macbook pro. All because the CEO wears an artsy black turtle neck and ringo glasses???

I can get a HP or DELL with video/graphics card and sound card for $1200 or less. Okay, it's made in china and requires an EXTRA 2 year warranty, but that only costs $150.

250000won for a 12inch dell with 1 year warranty is overpriced?? You simply have no clue what u r talking about.

In the netbook market, the cheapest netbook ever priced was/is the toshiba 8inch netbook which retails NEW in Carrefour international for $150. No intel, 8inch screen and very cheaply constructed without a webcam, bluetooth or built-in speaker. With a 60% sized keyboard

Dell inspiron 12inch netbook
webcam
intel atom
webcam and built-in mic
built-in speaker
90% sized keyboard
