Hi guys and gals, im looking to be relocating to Seoul pretty soon and was wondering, whats the longest it'l take me to get to the centre of Seoul from any of the 25 outskirt districts? I dont want to stuck on the outskirts with a marathon to get into the city.

Just doing some research before i finalise anything. Thanks

Depends on the district. Could take 30 minutes or 80.

Yeah, that is pretty vague. It really depends what you like and where you live. In my opinion, North of the river is more interesting, especially if you go west. Don't worry about living in the outskirts. It'll more quiet and cheaper and you'll still be in subway range to all the happening places. Traveling for an hour or so to do whatever is normal here.

Excellent, thanks for that. I suppose i could handle 80 minutes, its not likely that my workplace and accomodation will be that far apart anyway.

wow 80 minutes? what part of seoul is that? it takes about 90 minutes to get from songtan (pyeongtaek) to itaewon.

its not really about how many stations. but where you are going from and to. if you have to transfer a lot then time is added. if its the same line then its faster. i used to live in incheon and played rugby in seoul every weekend. but due to me being close to line 1 it was very quick to get into central seoul. however otehr friends who lived in seoul took longer as they had to transfer several times. it depends where you want to go in seoul really.

It really depends on where you are going and coming from. I travel 1hr. 20 min. to get to school from home, both Seoul locations. The city is huge.

Living near where you work can save you a headache everyday.

Yeah sometimes the bus and subway routes don't have go straight to where you need to go. It used to take me 40 minutes to get to work either by subway or bus for a distance that takes me 10 minutes via taxi.

It's worth it to try to get placed away from your school closer to the center. Last year I worked 2km north of Hongdae but was placed 1.5km farther north, making me 3.5km away rather than .5. If you can find your own housing it's niceuh.

If you're between .5km and 5km of work, a bicycle may be the fastest way to get around. I can ride to many of my classes in less time than it takes to walk to the bus stop and wait for the bus.

Define commute. Just the train ride or train ride + waiting for the train?

The train ride itself is short. Throw in the waiting time for the train and that's an extra 30-40 minutes. depending on where your headed.

stay as close as you can to the center of seoul, if you live on the outskirts trips to seoul will be full on day trips
