Hi.

I'm new to the area, well Geumsan actually, but Daejeon is only about 45 minutes away.

I hear there is an area called 'Time World' that is good for hanging out in. Where is it exactly and how would one get there please...?

Also what and where are names of bars where there is a 'foriegner' social scene...? I've been here 6 years and it never works out with Korean friends, thanks all the same.

Finally, if you're gonna be hanging in Daejeon this weekend or want to and wouldn't mind inviting a newb to the area out for a beer (all be it an independant one who isn't going to pick your mind about Korea and need help all the time etc...) give me a pm as weekends in Geumsan are not exactly kicking it, knowwhatImean.... Wink

Cheers

OK, if you are in downtown Daejon and want to find the good bars, first
find the KTX station and then haul ass to Itaewon. hahaha

If you want to find Timeworld, either enter a taxi and ask for Timewuldu or take a look at a map. For some silly reason the subway takes a circle around Timeworld, so it's not so practical to take the subway there unless you want to walk for 10-15 minutes. Timeworld is a Galleria department store, so you're looking for the area behind Timeworld. If you actually go to Timeworld Galleria you'll find nothing but expensive brand clothes, a cinema and a Starbucks.

There are often quite a few foreigners in the western bar Sponge which is just around the corner from Timeworld. If you've been here for 6 years you wont have any problems finding it, there is even a big sign.

This site used to have a pretty good summary of the foreigner bars in daejeon, but they changed formats since I last checked it so not sure if it still does. There is a map that you can zoom and see the locations of lots of things and good info about local events and clubs.

When you get in a cab at the train station (or anywhere in Daejeon), just say "Timeworld-da" and they will take you there. You can also say City Hall if you know how to say that in Korean because its close to that. Anyway, they will drop you off right in front of timeworld. Just walk straight toward the Paris Baguette and turn left at the first street. It looks like Las Vegas with all the lights, so you can't miss it. On that street, the foreigners hang out at Lucky Strike, Sponge, or at the GS 25. If you continue straight and turn right at the dead end, then continue walking past a Garten Bier and main road, you will see Bon Bon - good food and many foreigners hang out there.

If you go downtown, there is Brickhouse and JRock, but its too confusing to tell you how to get there.

Define *decent*.

I rarely go out in Daejeon - in fact, for all the years I've lived in Daejeon, I've been out may be 10 times.

Mind you, I was married and then 5 years ago I had my daughter, so going out really wasn't that much of an option.... but still, Daejeon isn't that great a scene.

Decent for me is

Good normal priced drinks

Foriegners - not bitter and wierd 50 year olds

A few decent looking single Western women

Maybe a pool table or two

Maybe a poker tourny every now and then....

Decent music and not constantly playing hip hop / teeny bopper shite

Heh, I don't know if Hitler bar is still around, maybe racetraitor will post them again.
Brickhouse used to be the place to go when i lived near Daejeon, I couldn't tell you now though.
but, in order to get ot that area, just ask the can driver to go to eun-hang dong.
From there just walk into the bar area past Spris Spris and starbucks. From what I remember there is J-rock, Wa bar, Brickhouse, etc.
