Position
The Catholic University of Korea invites applications for full-time, tenure track positions in a range of disciplines.

Position: Tenure-Track
-Initial Contract: 2 years, with options of renewal or conversion to tenure
-Salary Range: 20,000,000-40,000,000 KRW (Approx. $16,600-$33,300 USD)
-Benefits: Health insurance coverage, free on-campus housing (not including utilities)

Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Teaching: 9 hours per week
- Research: Conduct research projects

Requirements
Each candidate must be a foreign citizen and have earned a Ph.D. by the March 2010 start date, and will be expected to lecture in English. Excellent competence in oral and written English is essential for each position, and native-level competence will be regarded as highly desirable in assessing applications.

It seems to be a common practice in Korea for Catholic or Christian schools and other workplaces to play a pittance. On rare occasions adverts even play on the mutual love for Jesus Christ that employer and employee will enjoy. Afterall if you have that love, you won't need money will you? Rolling Eyes

In the best of situations ......

It is still underpaid.

But they will find someone.

There are a lot of underemployed PhD grads out there. The starting pay in the West is not that great, and this position requires research projects above and beyond the 9 hours teaching. Sounds like a typical university position. Publish or perish. I imagine lots of freshly minted PhD's will apply for the chance to do some solid research and get their names in the journals.

A PhD holder working for that kind of money...they need to get their money back from their university is all I can say! They got taken! Must be desperate for work I think....and they can't get a job paying better back home? Maybe a diploma mill they "attended?"
