So I am a first time teacher and I've been offered a contract with the option of placement in either Jamsil or Daegu (the Daegu position pays more though). I know Jamsil would be a blast but what do you guys think of Daegu? Are there a lot of other foreigners over there? How are the bars/clubs? I'm young so I'm not quite ready to put the college lifestyle behind me haha. What would y'all recommend for someone just getting over to Korea, should I go Seoul or take the extra money and go to Daegu?

If you're wanting bars and clubs, Daegu has plenty. There aren't as many foreigners here as in Seoul or Busan but there are quite a few.

Daegu is a big city with plenty to do - you will not be disappointed. The extra money would make it an easy decision for me.

Jamsil is one of the best places to live in Seoul. I would live in Jamsil. Actually I do haha Very Happy

Seoul is the best city and Jamsil has plenty of parks, next to the river and cleaner than other areas.

After living in Daegu for 2 months, I am bored. I have climbed the local mountain, been to Palgong (twice), walked all over the downtown part and where I live. I'd stay in Seoul. I'm going back on the 31st of Oct.

Go to Jamsil, it's in Seoul. Daegu is SE Korea and you can ramp up the xenophobia and racist meters if you live there. Also daegu has more of a noticiable military (US presence) because Deagu is smaller and has less spots for foreigners to go. There are more military in Seoul but the size dissipates the noticability factor. So if you are in Daegu and go to clubs you are likely going to be brushing shoulders wiht military guys. In my experinece Seoul is much more friendlier.

I have visited both those places and JAMSIL is what I would choose. No contest.

Jamsil sounds like a really nice place to live, but to say Seoul is more friendlier than Daegu is a crock! I have lived in Daegu for quite sometime and rarely run into the military lads.

The expat community in Daegu is 10X better than that of Seoul. It is more tight knit down here and easier to make friends. There are leagues to play in (hockey, ulitimate, softball, flag football, road hockey), the city is small so it doesn't take forever to meet up with friends, and most importantly (imo) you don't spend your life in line-Seoul is one of the most populated cities in the world.

Another great thing about not living in Seoul is that you feel like you are in Korea and not some other big city on this planet.
Daegu is great and the expat community is one of the things that keeps me here...I am sure that many here would agree...In Seoul, you all just walk by each other....

Good luck in your choice OP
DK
ps, if money is important to you and saving it, move to Daegu. Less expensive options of partying...Seoul is a treat...go up there, blow some steam off and then get out! That is what i use it for!

What are the best areas of Daegu to live/party in? The school is located at:

1036-23 bunji, Manchon-dong, Suseung-ku, Kwangyuck city, Daeku,

Is this near those areas? Thanks

Manchon is about 7,000 won from downtown. Downtown is where it is at on the weekends. Though folks tend to go to a bar called the Communes on Wednesday nights. My buddies and I tend to just hit up the local pub or corner store during the week. Keep it cheap and save the blowouts for the weekends.
What is the name of the school you are looking at? PM if you can.
