Very good! In case you didn't notice, these myths are all written from the Korean perspective. |
Damn you and your infernal logic, J.B. Clamence! |

23. Americans can't count money. When they buy something that costs 5,100W, they give us a 10,000W note, and then an extra 100W! And then they look at us funny when we give them back their 100W and count out 4,900W in change for them. Why do they do that? |
I hear this a lot. So, it must just be me. But back in the USA, I had this problem a lot. But everyday in Korea, I do this with no problem. But all the others, plus a million not yet posted I agree with. |

In my experience, it's usually female cashiers who don't seem to understand the concept of simplifying change. Male cashiers usually know what's going on, but since most cashiers I deal with are female, it's annoying. |

All Americans are white!!! See that black guy on the street? He says he's from L.A. but he must REALLY be from A-Puh-Ri-Ka.
My boyfriend found this annoying to no end when he was in Korea...
Solution - point to the Korean in question and say il-bun-saram (Japanese)...he he he... they get the point! |

How discrete of you. But, aren't you Canadian (ie. North American)? What's with the we? |

Strange how ignorant people can be, not just Koreans of course! But to hear from one who has learned at least enough English to say some things like "you should try rice" or "wow you can use chopsticks or read (basic) Korean" does seem strange! Unless they're from a small town and have almost never seen a foreigner, I don't get that line of thinking. |

Very true. Tell me which TV networks are scrambling to cover soccer games? Pretty much only ESPN shows soccer, and it's at 4 in the morning right after the Lumberjack games.
It's all well and good for 10 year olds but really, once you hit high school you should probably go in for a real sport. That said, it's still better than Baseball.

Those questions and your avatar go together perfectly.
I had a Korean student give me that attitude about America being nothing but recycled England. When I tried to explain it to him, he just stopped listening. Punk.
I came across an interesting one last year. Corvettes are German! They were dead sure of it. When I told them it was an American car, they tried to dismiss me at first. When I showed that I knew what I was talking about, they weren't happy about it. |

Korean person "Wow, you can use chopsticks!"
Me "Yes, can you use a fork?" OR "Even a 3 year old can use chopsticks"
Korean person "Wooah, you can write Korean alphabet"
Me "Do you think it is very difficult?"
Korean person "No, it is the best and most logical alphabet in the world"
Me "Then why are you suprised I can write it?"
the result of both scenarios:
Korean person "Sorry"
Me watching them blush "That's OK"
And I love to have Koreans around for dinner, serving up a hot hot Indian or Thai curry and seeing who starts sweating and complaining it's hot first. That's mean I know, but I have a mean streak.
I think foreigners started this "we can't eat spicy food" myth because they were being polite about kimchi. Instead of saying "My god, this is rotten!", they said "Oh my, no I can't eat it, it's too hot." |

GOOD ONE! I've experienced that over and over. At times I'm able to explain to them to just give me back a 5,000 Won note.. at other times they are so insistent that I've greatly overpayed, I just let believe that and count back the tons of change. It seems to happen A LOT! When I can convince them to just give me back a 5,000 Won note as change they get this 'wow, never thought of that' look on them.. |

Weird, although I often give the balance in change, this has never happened to me. Though it might now that I've thought about it. |

I thought the stereotype here was that you all love Bush and agree with everything he does. |
