I just saw a ton of banners around Jongno/Gwangwhamun adversting 2010-2012 as "Visit Seoul Year"... Shocked

Korea HAS to be the laughing stock of the tourism industry.

On the Daegu busses they have TVs that play Korean tourism ads that say "2010-2012 Visit Korea Year". I'm not sure why its 2 years and not 1 but this is Korea...

Here's the website:
http://www.visitkoreayear.com/

Turn off the pop-up blocker to get a link to an English-language .pdf explaining all the planned festivals and events.

This has to rank up there as one of my favorite bits of "English" in Korea, next to "ricetard" and "Bravo Your Life."

I love how the "Blue Ocean" year prominently features a robot.

I have the inside scoop on this one.
A good friend of mine works somewhere at Korea Tourism, and he said he advised them to put an 'S' on the end of 'year', but they never did. In other words, they went against the advice of a native English speaker!

Secondly, I think this campaign is directed not to Koreans but to foreigners.

2010-2012 = 2 years? Really? Interesting. I could have sworn that it was actually 3!

Obviously didn't see any of the advertising for 'Homecoming'. The single most ill-advised, ill-thought out tourist event in history.

It's a website trying to get people to visit Korea. But it's in Korean. Why am I not surprised?

I've lived in Korea so long now that I just automatically expect things to go wrong or be done crappily. It's when they get it right that I'm shocked.
