I've watched 'Silence of the Lambs' enough to have no effect. I have watched it for the sole effect of no more trouble. I think I am ok now. It took me a decade.

When I was a kid, The Wizard of Oz came on tv every year around Thanksgiving. The 'monkeys in the woods' scene always had us scared *beep*less and my sisters and I would run to the kitchen to hide shivering under the table.

We learned two lessons from this:

1. My mom clued us in that if the sound was turned off, it wasn't scary at all. This is why they give awards for soundtracks.
2. The kitchen linoleum made a great slip-n-slide in our stocking feet.

I'll have to tell my sister that she's not the only one traumatized by that movie!

I love Hitchcock, but The Birds makes me squirm.

"The Exorcist." It's a pretty old movie, but still bloody scary.

If you truly want to terrify yourself read the book of the same name by someone Blatty.

So terrifying it borders on unpleasant^^

Read it in the daytime.

William Peter Blatty.

I read it at the age of ten, because my parents forbade me to read it.

It was a huge mistake.

I cried.

^ I can relate. I read The Amityville Horror when I was young and it got to me. The movie wasn't so great though.

Speaking of movies from that time, The Omenwas another creepy one. It had one of the best scores for a horror movie I've heard.

I miss the old horror stuff from the 70's; pre-80's slasher video and post 50's and 60's B-movie material.

Pretty much all David Lynch, especially Fire Walk With Me for some reason, creeps me out hugely.
The Ring was pretty damn creepy too.
REC. was a good low-budget Spanish horror movie from a couple of years ago that had some jumpy goodness too. The Hollywood remake, Quarantine, was pretty weak...if you haven't seen Quarantine, don't bother, and just see REC., in the dark, by yourself. It was much better than I thought it'd be.

I'm an absolute wuss when it comes to creepy/scary things... so the few scary movies I have watched were enough: the Ring (US) and the Skeleton Key.

Ten!? You're lucky you weren't scarred for life Very Happy

Speaking of which, I saw a movie starring Patrick Dennehy where he portrayed that serial killer John Wayne Gacy.

Can't remember the name of the movie but I do remember a scene where he dressed up as a clown. Finished me for clowns forever afterwards. To this day I see clowns as sinister, menacing figures Laughing
