Hey guys,
My gf is going on a visa run to Japan next Thursday. I'm going with her and we're staying for 2 nights in Kobe. Just wondering, has anyone ever been or knows anything about Kobe? Or can recommend any sights etc?
Thanks. |

| The harbourfront with an interesting outdoor shopping mall. You gotta try one of the Kobe beef restaurants all over the place. |

If price is a big deal get the lunch sets at a resto near the harbourfront. I`m telling you Kobe beef is an amazing thing. You think Hanwoo is great? Kobe beef literally melts in your mouth. It`s that tender! |

You have to try Kobe beef. On my next visit to Japan, I'm getting a Kobe steak...or two. |

So good to hear!
I'll be living really close to Kobe, so I'll definitely try the beef. And oh, the outdoor shopping mall too. |

You can go to Himeji castle too. One of the best in Japan. |

It might be good for me, to meet people though. I don't speak any Japanese, so it might be nice. |

| Fair enough, but isn't the point of living in Japan to socialize with and experience Japanese people? |

Definitely!! I just wonder, is it easy to make Japanese friends? In Korea, it took me quite a long time to make close friendships... so it would be comforting to meet other expats.
Which brings me to ask... are Japanese "friendlier" than say, Koreans? I don't speak much Japanese, but I'm learning.
** sorry about the thread hijack!! |

| I went to Kobe for a weekend, it was a delightful little port city. The waterfront was pretty good and it reminded me of Yokohama, though a lot more condensed. I highly recommend forking out for Kobe Gyu, expensive but damn good and you are in Kobe! It is always nice to have the food in the same place as it is named, ie Kobe beef or Peking duck. |

| Try the local unis for language exchange and take it from there. Maybe Kobe has an International Friendship centre where they host events to show you Japanese culture eg. origami. |

Kobe is great for the huge variety of foreign food available. I made many trips there when I lived in Japan and this Jamaican restaurant was my personal favourite-

Even if that's not your cup of tea, the above website is really useful for info on other restaurants in Kobe (and in Osaka/Kyoto & Tokyo as well for that matter). |

Went to Kobe for a day because it was so close to Osaka.
There is a mountain close to the Shinkansen station, you can get to the top via cable car. Definitely stop by there and check it out. Can't remember the name, sorry. |
