Hi guys

I brought my dog to Korea from home and he has constantly been sick since he got here 4 months ago. He was hardly ever sick at home, so I'm not sure what is going on.
The latest health problem is that he has a large, moveable lump on the back of his neck, near his shoulders. I took him to the vet a few months ago for x-rays, due to a back problem he had at the time (He is a Daschund). I am concerned that it may be a tumor, but that would have shown up on the x-ray wouldn't it?
Any idea of what this may be and what I should do?

Any help would be greatly appriciated ~

Hey,
maybe it's an abscess...? Where are you located? Maybe someone in your area knows of a fantastic vet?

I'm in Bucheon.
I do have a vet near my place and he does speak English, but he doesn't seem overly caring and is more interested in just shipping me out of the place as fast as possible.
So if anyone knows of a fantastic vet here or what might be going on, I would love to hear it!

Here's the Animal Rescue Korea site on Vet Clinics.

Has anyone seen Kermo around, is she still in Korea? She'd know the best vet. But hopefully the ARK can help.

Damn,

sorry about that

Kermo can be found on the e.x.p.a.t.k.o.r.e.a site I believe

(can't believe they put that as eslcafe, hence the dots upon edit...assholes)

Get rid of the dog.

It probably barks all day when you are gone.

And how can you subject it to living in your shoebox apartment are day?

Seems selfish to me.

Too bad we don't have the old "Ask a vet" thread, that used to be on this site. Still, I'll see if I can get hoju over here (He's a trained veterinarian, qho taught in Korea for a bit)

How old is your dog? Has the bump gotten larger? Does it feel squishy when you touch it? Is the dog in any pain when you touch it?

More than likely it is a collection of fatty cells and is completely harmless. It happens to many breeds of dogs. However, I would still recommend going to your local vet and having them aspirate a small amount of the fluid. They should be able to analyze this or send you to a vet that can.

The same thing happened to our beagle. We are in a small town and had to go to a vet in Busan. The options were to do a full biopsy or to remove some of the fluid. We asked the vet what he recommended and he ended up just removing some fluid. Our beagle has had the same fatty group of cells on him for about a year now. Still no pain and still no problems.

I'd ask the folks over at Animal Rescue Korea. They're good people.

(I don't really post here anymore, and when beercanman is banned for the above remark, you will understand why.)

I'd definitely have the vet check it out again and the animalrescuekorea.org website is super helpful.

As for being sick more often has his diet changed since being here? I adopted a dog while here and he was experiencing stomach problems and horrible breath so I did some research on dog food and what I found was disturbing.

Finding dog food here that is higher quality can be a little bit tricky but I switched my dog to Candidae for breakfast and then I make him homemade dinners and his health has really improved. His stomach problems have disappeared along with his bad breath.

Anyways all this info and more can be found on the ARK website. Dave's isn't as helpful for pet info cause it usually just devolves into eating dog jokes.

I don't know how far Bucheon is from Daegu,
but Dr. Beck's by Camp Walker is super nice.
She helped take care of my kitten who had Parvo. (She didn't make it, but that's a different story for another time.)

She was really caring and took care of me while I cried my eyes out. A sensitive vet makes all the difference in the world. All of my friends take their dogs (and I take my dog) to her.

Dr Beck's number is 053-474-9820. Her English is really good and her office is by Camp Walker so she gets a lot of foreigners and can help when you need to ship your dog home.

Wow. You are sure a delightful ray of sunshine.

My dog does not bark all day and I take him for hour long walks before and after I go to and get home from work (6 hour shifts). The rest of the time I am with him at home pretty much all day. He has lots of toys, food, snacks and is well loved and taken care of (hence me posting this thread as I am concerned for his well-being).

***Anyways, I want to thank all of you that PM'd me with info on good vets. I would PM you back, but I don't have enough posts yet.

I really appriciate all of your help very much.

Thanks to all of you again!
