| Bought a Macbook Pro, installed Vista using Parallels, used the Vista side way more than the Mac stuff, but it caused it to crash a lot. I took off Vista and now it's a big gray paperweight. I just use my husband's PC unless I need to do a lot of writing work and he is using the PC. |

Try using Bootcamp. It's a lot more stable and runs Windows natively instead of in a virtul environment. Also, ditch Vista and get on the Windows 7 bandwagon. |

Oh come off it. If your PC had a shiny new makeover, you'd be petting yourself silly.
Regarding Mac design... they do more than outsource. They BUY technology before it is used across the market. Most of the features in todays laptops were introduced by Apple.
However, it took Microsoft it's entire lifespan to come up with an OS that mimics everything MAC OSX could do 5 years ago.
Even now, I read threads about WIndows 7 not installinjg the way it should and not coming with all the extra software that MAC OSX does at a lower price.
Mac pays attention to design. Period. Anyone who has studied design will be able to see the difference. Apple design is often textbook material in University Industrial design courses. It's not about being cool. That's just what PC users need to repeat to themselves because Microsoft hasn't had a novel idea since the first Windows GUI came out.
WIndows 7 needs 20gigs of disc space in comparison to Mac's 6gigs. So, it looks like Microsoft hasn't mastered the copycat business quite yet. |

er, no. I wouldn't. I really couldn't care less what my PC looks like. It's a dull black box that lurks under my desk. I like it that way. I only care about the performance on the inside.
It's a E8400/HD4870/P35/4GB rig which I assembled for around 900,000....including a Zalman PSU and CPU fan so I can overclock the E8400 to 4ghz. 7.1 channel audio card. To get the same power from a Mac I would need to spend roughly twice as much.
I have a 2ms 27'' widescreen monitor. Would you care to let us know how much Apple would charge for a monitor of that size and spec?
Best thing is, I'll be upgrading it in January so I'll be able to re-use some of its parts for a new HTPC. Nothing goes to waste.
There's three things Apple computers don't do well. Upgradability, flexibility and pure power at a low cost.
I'm happy with my choice.
As for OS's.......who cares if MS gets ideas from OSX? Do you think the Apple designers are oblivious to innovations in the world of PC's? Hardly! They have eventually adopted every internal component from the PC world.
I know you guys are bedazzled by the shiny silver cases and the cute logo, as well as the 'Mac's are for cool people' marketing........but you're actually just buying designer PC's.

Wow. Take a look at those two links carefully.
That writer is actually saying that Mac OS 'copied' a forward and back navigation function from Windows. There must be some funky Microsoft coolaide out there, because Windows didn't invent forward and back file navigation, or arrows.
Microsoft also didn't invent screen sharing as the article asserts.
And all the other 'inventions; are merely label/location differences.
Now, looking at the things Microsoft copied from Apple, you'll actually see concrete applications. Big difference.

it's about individualism. unless you have only ever bought a brand-less white t-shirt and blue jeans your entire life, then you have paid for designer clothing. even people who buy brand-less clothing are attempting to make a fashion statement.
but this is another thread altogether... back to apple vs the rest of the world. |

I am curious what Vista programs you used that you couldn't use in OSX (other than explorer)? |
