When in Rome...do the Romans.

I think a better question would be, why exactly do most Korean men make most Western women run for the door(or why is it that Western women are unable to date other ethnicities...does seem that way ladies, whats up?), and why is it that Korean men only see white women as "the white stallion" to take for a test drive and brag to their buddies about but not something you'd bring home to mom.

In a place where men are supposed to have the big testes...it seems like Korean girls are the ones who have them when it comes to mixing outside the xenophobic box.

For me, I have no hatred of western women...I love them, but the vast majority of women here are Korean, they are different, interesting and in my eyes very very beautiful (just seems that way after a few years of being here). The idea of having a culturally mixed family is very exciting. I've been a Canuck for many years, been there, done them...

I've also noted that good looking women don't tend to leave home without their boyfriend, nor do they tend to stay abroad as long...sorry ladies, just an observation (all you ladies that do travel alone and alot are very very cool people).

I have quite a lot to say on this subject, because honestly, I've heard everything in the book.

I've been approached out of nowhere by Western women who have been here for a few years and have only 'tried' dating Korean men once or twice and who go on and on and on about how Korean men just don't meet 'our' standards of manliness. I have met more women who are completely mad about Korean men and won't even look at a Western man anymore. I've met women who are in serious long-term relationships with Korean men and who are doing their best to learn Korean and adapt to Korean culture.

I've heard that Korean men only want to sleep with Western women and then move on. I've heard that Korean men get attached way too quickly and want to be a couple right away, sending loads of texts and saying 'I love you' every fourth sentence. I've heard that Korean men are only good in bed, and not worth dating. I've heard that Korean men make really good boyfriends, but are crap in bed.

The lesson? Surprise. Korean men are just like Western men, which is to say completely diverse. People just stick the "Korean" tag on there because ... well, that's just what we do when we're in a foreign country, I guess.

My personal experiences have been just as varied, but mostly what I know of is my good Korean male friends who, despite some mutual cultural social interaction hiccups, are more or less much like my Western male friends.

I'm not saying Korean men are all one thing, nor are all western women...but the numbers do seem to say something...what exactly, I'm not sure. I just threw out a couple of ideas (I think Benji had a few too).

I too have Korean friends who do not fit the mold I wrote about...not even close. But there do indeed seem to be some roadblocks between the Western girls and the Korean guys here in Korea, more so than what exists for Western guys and Korean girls.

And if we were in another country...I suppose the tag would be, Indian, Japanese, German, Australian....We are all still different, being PC hasn't suddenly transformed the world into a planet of clones who do the same exact thing no matter where they may be.

To begin with, I am a western male who does not have a thing for Korean women. They're very beautiful and cool (depending) and I have no problem with them, but I don't want to get involved. If I have to get a girl pregnant on accident, I'd rather it be a girl from a more beautiful place (Australia?). I think getting stuck in Korea because of an accident would cause me to have an accident off the edge of a cliff. I really don't want to get stuck here.

So I hear the question "why don't western women like Korean men?" It's probably because most (not all) Western women don't like getting the crap beaten out of them for having dinner ready 10 minutes late.

Yeah, I didn't mean to make it sound like I thought you were generalizing. Notice when I said 'we' throw the Korean tag on there, I did say 'we' -- it's only natural, when you're in a different place.

Anyway, I think the numbers are changing really rapidly. I actually know more Western woman-Korean man couples than I do the other way around....

There are less expat females, more Korean females. It's simple math. You don't see the numbers back home because of diversity. Here, with the ratios as they are, even with the language barrier, it's not surprising many expat males are with Korean girls.

Not many people can work that simple fact out. I hope a few read this and stop the "oh look, I bet he couldn't get a girlfriend back home" reaction that seems prevalent among the expat community.

I need to move apartments. My view of Korean women is quite skewed due to where I live.

I guess this is the PC answer we'll have to settle for. cue more personal attacks from Dwegi and the ironically named I am no Picasso. Wink
