I've read some members mailed a certified check/money order back home rather than wiring it. I'm not sure how reliable it can be but its a lot cheaper. |

Change your bank. I send home roughly that much each month and my bank (Kyongnam Bank) charges about 9 to send the money and HSBC charge about 6 to receive it.
If thats not an option you could get an international bank card and mail it home. Have someone withdraw money from your korean account and deposit it your UK account. You'll be charged about $5 per transaction. The only draw back with this is that your korean bank may limit the amount you can withdraw. Mine only lets me take out 200ish a day this way so it's not suitable for large amounts. |

I bank with Nonghyup in Korea and Natwest in UK. The first time I sent money the girl asked me if I wanted to pay the charges this side or in the UK. The charges on this side totaled to about 35,000. There were no other deductions when it arrived in Natwest. 100% of the money I sent was put in my account. Ive done the same transaction about 10 times now and ive always opted to pay charges this side. |
