That's right.
I saw it with my own eyes yesterday.

Aptly named Times Square, it's a reproduction of a mall a la Americana.

Directions: Yeongdeungpo Station (Line 1), head for the Underground Shopping Center. Walk through it until you get to Sinsegye Department Store. There is access to Times Square from the department store, or on street level.

What you can see if you visit: The regular fare of American/foreign stores: Zara, Mango, Gap, etc. Enjoy the live Beegees and Gloria Gaynor music.
It's about 4 or 5 storeys, and for all intents and purposes is the first mall in Korea, in my opinion--no, I don't think COEX is a bonafide mall.

It's good if you are homesick and feel like scouring a mall for an afternoon, but i can't help but scoff at this attempt at pretending to be American. (Incidentally, there was a lineup for Louis Vuitton. Shocked )

Jane,

While looking around, did it look like they only imported Korean sizes and styles? For example, I know that the Gap sells a lot more stuff back home that doesn't get imported here, maybe because it doesn't look Korean enough.

And in western sizes. Who knew being a "small/medium" (back home) could be so difficult? It would be the only reason it would be worht a look, IMO.

Sorry. The mall had the foreign stores that can be found in other parts of Seoul. The sizes were similar to what normally abounds in Korea.

I feel your pain in terms of lack of 'small-medium' sizing in Korea, but the up-side is it justifies a shopping spree when shopping back home or abroad.

Hahaha! True! But, There are some things I really need to find and would like to try on (thus not just order online).

I really would love to go home (with empty bags, this time) and stock up!

I agree. Just because it has Korean stores mixed in with non-Korean stores does not make it any less of a mall.

I went there and stayed at the new Courtyard by Marroitt during Chuseok. The mall design was very like an American mall and way bigger than COEX. It seemed to have the same stores that you can find elsewhere in Korea, and the sizing was no different. But it's a very impressive place, tons of restuarants, but they looked a little pricey.

Maybe after seeing this mall, you'll agree that COEX is a poor excuse for a mall.
