i looked online about unlocking it, but it says you can only unlock phones that are on the GSM network. I thought korea was on CDMA, so...i don't think you could use this phone in other places. unless i'm totally wrong?

this is a wcdma phone. its gsm-- 3.5g. its the same model sold all over the world. you can undoubtedly unlock it when you get back home.

Yes, you can buy one in the stated and use it here since its G3. My work colleage from the states brought one to Korea on a business trip and I was drooling all over it last week.

So I KNOW it will work here if bought from the states... the only question is will it work if you get a contract from KT or SK. My buddy got his contract and data plan from AT&T I believe.

no. a kt or sk (sk is the ones who are actually offering it with the bb plans) will NOT work in this phone as only sk phones will work on the sk network as they have an imei whitelist (numerous threads about this)...

well that just seemed like somebody's guess, and not a real answer.

anyhow, my gf called one of the suppliers on the website and they said that phone will NOT work in america. it's been made to only work in korea. roaming...yes, but nothing more.

Sad there's the deal breaker for me.

i guarantee you lack of communication on that front dude. every BB is unlockable. look at the technical details. EXACT same as at&t and rogers bb's. if it can roam it can be registered on a u.s. or north american wcdma ntwk. if it can be registered, its the same band. if its the same band its the same bloody handse---- whatever.

regardless, to each his own. personally, im hoping my new alien card gets back asap so i can grab one of these. ive lived in ktf pre pay purgatory for way too long.

yes the phone is in english. it's multilanguage so you can put it into full english or change it into korean (along with a bunch of other languages that you can delete off the phone if you like).

i've had mine for the last month and i love it.
i was waiting and waiting for the iphone but the push email and other messaging options on this phone are all unbelievable.

you cant sign up for a contract (subsidized phone) if you're on an E2 visa. the only way you'll get the contract price for the handset is if you get a korean to sign in their name.

You can get a subsidized phone You just have to pay the waiver fee if you don't complete the 1st year. Most of the shops don't know how the rules apply to foreigners is all.

to get back on topic...
im heading to pick this phone up tomorrow, though i have one concern;
most sk tel phones DO NOT receive MULTIMAIL from KTF users.
can anyone with the BB comment on how they receive multimails from other service provider's clients?

does anyone know the actual truth about whether or not folks w/ e-2 visas can pick up one of these phones without paying the full price up front? some say i can get a subsidized phone...some say i can't (check the last few responses to this thread).

i checked with TWO sk shops and they both said there's no way i can buy the phone unless i want to pay the full price up front.

I got to get a new cellphone. I was hoping on an iPhone cause the buttons are big on it, but I might just go with the blackberry.

Hi tehdee, can you tell more details about the price of the phone and the service fee?
I'm curious if D2 can register for the phone?
A bit disappointed that we can not use BB bought from abroad.
