I don't believe that I ever had "yellow fever". I do prefer dark hair, but other than that I'm not too picky about looks.

I started dating my Korean girlfriend, and eventually married her, because her English is good enough for us to have meaningful conversations on a variety of topics, she is willing to work hard, she doesn't give much thought to current fashion trends, she is strong willed enough to express her opinion or to gently put me in my place if needed, she is open minded, she is caring, and I would go on, but I don't want to sound too whipped.

What do you mean too late?

I came from a small town in the US, and none of the women I dated there came close to what I have now. In the defense of American women, none of the other Korean women that I've met come close either.

I just remembered a story that was on NPR this weekend. Did a little Googling and found the story: OKCupid published the trends of how race affects initial contact and replies within their service:

There are less expat females, more Korean females. It's simple math. You don't see the numbers back home because of diversity. Here, with the ratios as they are, even with the language barrier, it's not surprising many expat males are with Korean girls.

Not many people can work that simple fact out. I hope a few read this and stop the "oh look, I bet he couldn't get a girlfriend back home" reaction that seems prevalent among the expat community.

I need to move apartments. My view of Korean women is quite skewed due to where I live.

I guess this is the PC answer we'll have to settle for. cue more personal attacks from Dwegi and the ironically named I am no Picasso. Wink

The truth is, across the boards, races pretty much stick to themselves. The percentages of interracial or intercultural marriages are always in the low percentiles. I think it's less than 1% in Korea. It's a complete non-issue.

I think the original OP was on the level of idle curiosity, and I get that. But no one seriously cares unless they actually buy into the junk ideology of racial homogeneity. And it is junk, like on the level of voodoo or creative design or the sun revolving around the earth. It's that silly.

You could break it down pretty simply, in my opinion, as follows: some non-Asian guys think Asian women are hot. Those guys give chase to Asian women. Some non-Asian guys could take it or leave it, and those guys sometimes chase Asian women. Some non-Asian guys prefer non-Asians, and those guys leave it alone.

Not complicated.

Do all expat males in Korea have it for Korean girls?

I think only those who can't find a pretty white girl.

I bet most of white men here feel much more confident about themselves as they can't get much attention back home.

And, please, folks...can we NOT make comments like, 'I see a lot of white losers with Korean girls.' What does that even mean? You see a guy you think is unattractive or something and make the determination that he is, in fact, a loser? What is a loser, anyway? And why are you so concerned?

The fact is, you don't know that guy or that girl or what their relationship is about. Just worry about yourself.

After starting the topic "I hate haters" you can maybe take a look at the two quotes above and wonder where the hate comes from.

Hmm... well, actually, I don't think I said anything bad. It is a proven fact - an average looking male OR FEMALE will get more attention from the opposite sex in Korea than back home. Just a fact.
Sorry if somebody got offended Smile

I agree that it is easier to get attention in Korea then it is at home. However your second statement says that if an expat male like Korean girls it means he is unable to get a pretty girlfriend in his home country. I don't believe a personal preference in looks equals the persons ability to attract white girls.

No body are denying the fact that there are expats who had problems attracting girls in their home country and have an easier time in Korea, but you are basically calling expat guys who are attracted to Korean girls losers. (Since many would equal a guy who can't attract pretty girls with a loser) This is exactly what danseonsaeng warned you not to do and I think you should have taken his advice.

I'd like to find ONE woman.
I hope she is reasonably:

attractive
intelligent
humorous
kind
aware
spiritual
active
creative
easy-going
generous
unassuming
open-minded
loyal
sexual
honest
sane
unencumbered

Race is not a predictor in these traits.

Your observation? So how long did you study in Australia/New Zealand/Canada then? I assume you must have lived abroad at some point, if you can make the comparison between Korea and Western men's home countries....

And does he realize how this makes Korean women sound? Like no one would even think about dating a Korean woman unless they had no other choice. But then he's probably one of those who touts the opinion that Korean women who date foreign men are throw-aways, anyhow.

Classy. All around classy.

By the way, is anyone else of the opinion that anyone who has a problem with interracial/cultural/whatever relationships is almost 100% guaranteed to be single?

Well, I think only guys who can't attract many white women would say that they are more attracted to Koreans. If anybody were to choose between white and Korean, no doubt they would choose the white one.
