| They look like a couple of typical western pot-heads to me. I don't see what the big deal is. If it showed a westerner with a Korean, people would probably complain it was depicting how western teachers corrupt Koreans. |

If I remember correctly, the story is about some kyopos that were busted for possession. The Charlie Brown cartoon hardly matches with the situation. Can western news papers get away with printing cartoons of asian stereotypes?
Having said that, I could care less. Let them print what they want. |

I don't see what the big deal is with expressing dislike for the cartoon. If a paper chooses to run a cartoon like that, fine, but anybody else is also free to explain why they don't like it.
Is it a huge deal? No. Is it the biggest issue in our lives? No. Did I lose sleep thinking about some cartoon by a no-name cartoonist on a website I never read? No. But like I said, if somebody feels comfortable depicting one white guy and one guy who sort of looks like a white guy in a story about a group of people---predominantly ethnic Koreans---busted for drug use, then I think that merits comment.
Some people don't acknowledge that there's room between "indifference" and "outrage" on the scale. |

It does show a westerner with a Korean (the bald one) and people are complaining about how it is depicting how western teachers corrupt Koreans. |

Agreed!
Personally, I would hope that such a cartoon would ALWAYS be able to be published in Korea, even if I don't like what it represents. It's called free speech.
But discussion is certainly appropo - even complaints. In my opinion, it's evidence of racial bias, and is probably the kind of thing that'll be held up thirty years from now as an example of a 'different time.' |
