It was around 11:30pm on Wednesday night and you were talking on your cell phone while riding the bus. I wasn't quite paying attention and didn't hear everything, but a guy in the same row as you leaned right over and said "Can you shut up?" or something along those lines, and then told you to stop talking in English so loud.

I'm really sorry that happened to you. As you later found out, he was completely psycho, but I can tell you right now that you weren't talking loud at all, and even if you were, the tone and manner in which he spoke to you was disgusting and inappropriate. You were sitting two rows ahead of me so I couldn't tell your age or see if you were of Korean descent or not, but you apologized to him and there was absolutely no need to do that.

Also, sorry if he bothered you further after he had his little confrontation with me, but just know that you don't need to put up with any kind of racist, bigoted BS. Ever. Using a phone in English at a normal volume (as you were) on a public bus is perfectly fine.

Thanks. I was just about to off myself, but now I know I don't need to put up with that stuff.

Wanna hook up?

If the guy was so awful to her, why didn't you give her a hand? I know that it can be a bad idea to interfere with Korean-Korean issues and altercations, but I really think that expats lending each other a hand every now and then might actually improve our twisted little community.

Read it once more.

He's trying to hook up with her up s via the ESL cafe. This is just a public pick up line to show how kind sensitive and caring guy he is...

*me takes out the popcorn*

What are the chances she even visits this site? And more importantly, was she hot?

Hooking up aside - can someone tell me why it is OK for Koreans to talk very loudly on the phone in Korean, but we can't talk?

The proper response to this, is to snarl "Joo Gu Leh?" and then resume talking in a louder volume.

This is where speaking Korean would be handy.

Advice- The next time someone leans over toward you to tell you to do something- just yell "YOU WANT TO TOUCH ME WHERE- BYUN-TAE!!" or "NO, I WON'T SLEEP WITH YOU, DO YOU WANT ME TO TELL YOUR WIFE?!"

either way, the guy will leave you alone and probably move to another seat on the bus Wink
