I was walking home last week-end and noticed a pet store with several hamsters in one cage outside in the freezing cold. (Sunday was very, very cold!). I decided to take one to 'rescue' him in a way. The pet store owner told me that this breed could live together so I bought two. Three days later they are trying to tear eachother to shreds so I had to buy a second cage. Now I have two lovely hamsters in two cages and hope someone may be interested in adopting one. Completely free - cage and all.

Please let me know if you are interested.

And if you plan to attack me for this thread, just pass. I feel bad enough already that this didn't work out.

Thanks.

Wish I could help you out. A student of mine actually brought a hamster to class and after seeing him along with the other students terrorize the poor guy, I decided to buy it off the kid and raise it on my own. I went out last night and bought a cage, bedding, bath sand, food, water bottle (the entire package). I hope he's happy. Good luck with the search. The way Koreans treat animals is horrible (if you haven't gone to a zoo yet, don't).

I am so happy to hear that you took the little guy in. It really seems like the animals, especially in pet stores and E-mart, are basically terrorized by children. When I bought the two hamsters, the owner put on these thick gloves, grabbed the hamsters and tossed them into the cage. One of them landed on its back. But I just can't have two... I already have to figure out how to take them home...

So I hope someone who is still hamsterless will be interested.

Just a bump to anyone who is interested.

The hamster and all is free. I just want it to go to a good home. I didn't want him to be at a pet store anymore.

I can bring him to you (if you are not too far away). I live in Gangnam.
He has a white tummy and brown and black spots. He is very quiet and requires minimal attention. Food once a day, veggies once in awhile, water refill when its close to empty and maybe 10 minutes of love a day (more if you can!).

I hate to point out this, because it's somewhat mean on my part, but by buying the hamster from the pet owner you are encouraging him to get more hamsters.

Yes, I completely realize that. I am no fool. But these hamsters are already alive and deserve to be treated well. I am sure the hamsters coming to him already exist....

It broke my heart to see them suffering.

I wish I could take him. I've raised hammies since I was six, and I found out fairly recently that my last one (which I left in the care of my friend in the States) just died. Crying or Very sad I live on Jeju, though, and am in no position to be taking care of anything.

Good luck finding yon hammy a home!

Sorry to hear that they don't get along but why not keep them both but in seperate cages since you already have them and wanted two in the first place.
If you can't find anyone from this site to take over hamster parenting, you should try www.animalrescuekorea.org

I can't take it, sorry, but just bumping this for you.

A couple months ago someone was selling baby chickens outside an elementary school. The Korean person I was with said the children buy them, play with them for a couple days and then throw them away when they become too weak. I'm no animal rights activist but that bummed me out.

I have a feeling that was me on the travel forum asking if anyone has taken a rodent back to US/Canada.

Thanks for the bump. That really bums me out, too... about the chickens.
Sad
