Though it was just sent in humor, I thought this was solid enough to even start another dumb thread:
"Don't believe everything you think"
Sounds a bit deep.
Sounds like a good idea to me anyway.
Any more fine words of wiseness? |

Often people don't think about what they believe. |

Good point.
They sure don't.
It's not always easy to question thought, but fun I guess, a worthwhile thing.
Almost everything, if not everything entirely, was given to us. Let's ask a few questions about that. Some of our predecessors were shady.
Damn, my head hurts. |

I read an interesting article in a magazine about human memory and your perception of who you are.
Said something like 95% of our memories, while not being entirely false, are substantialy different from what actually happened.
It went on to explain how humans often see themselves as the sum of their experiences and memories. Humans don't often define themselves by what they ARE DOING or WILL DO but primarily by what the HAVE DONE. The nature of human memory also tends to embelish in order to make one feel better or more secure about themselves.
So basically, for most people, the person who they percieve themselves to be is for the most part, a total fabrication. Interesting article I thought. Or did I? |

Exactly. Ever try to have a conversation about govt. regulation of drugs? As soon as you mention anything about lifting the prohibition on drugs, people go crazy when it just makes logical sense. |

Wouldn't mind seeing that article. Given an imperfect mechanism to begin with, it's not surprising self-image can be grossly inaccurate.
Memories are interesting. They change over time. Desire gets thrown into the mix. Perhaps we skew them, like our perceptions, in favor of ourselves.
Being defined by the past can be good or bad. We're rarely in the present, and we meet others with the past as well. A skewed past, all jumbled and filtered to fit our biases. |
