Fair enough, I can understand your point that much.

After all Miss America (or whatever it is) was essentially 'White America'... well, 'Upper Class, White with Non-weird Sounding Names' back in the day.

It was just more of the tone (words?) that threw me off. You know. Maybe giving history lessons are great and grand, but you know, always a nicer way going around it I guess.

Anyway, rambling and sorry for the miscommunication. Moving on now.

I was in Miami Beach during Black Beach Week (as they call it) on Memorial Weekend. The SoBe hipsters were nowhere to be found but I had a nice time. It was a little rowdy but no big deal. Quite a few restaurants and shops close up during this time and many of those that stay open hired private security. But given that 300,000 - 400,000 show up to party in a small section of a city of 80k (Miami Beach) you'd expect some problems.

I am talking about Black Spring Break as they call it. LOL

Different events I'm sure.

People need to wake up and realize that race is not important, but the person is.

I always find it cute when some ignorant person says this because even though I have never met Carla I'll bet a million dollars she is white.

You would say that wouldn't you - it doesn't matter what part of the world you go to - there is a version of a eurocentric culture and language and it doesn't matter what continent you land on - some part of it (or every part of it in a lot of cases) has been ruled by a white male.

So why would YOU get bent out of shape about colour issues? (that still exist) Rolling Eyes

So... you're saying that we SHOULD judge people by their skin and culture and not by their personality and that payback is always valid, even if the person in question had nothing to do with what other people or the same ethnicity have done, it's totally valid to go and discriminate against them?

Don't you find that a little bit... ineffective?

No, you haven't understood what I have writtten - I'll simplify the simple even further.

Carla wants to know why such a competition exists. And it wasn't that long ago Miss America was Miss white America. We are not talking all that long ago when a black person had no chance of entering such a competiton - never winning it.

Is payback always valid - no - but it is understandable. In most cases - a simple acknowlegement to past wrongs will do. I'm a white man and I understand that - so why can't she - probably because she uses her history books to even out her bed legs!

Carla shows a complete and utter lack of understanding and total ignorance of what she is talking about - discriminate against her? No - make her aware of history? Yes - whats your problem with it?

Her ignorance is no excuse.

Yes, I read my history books. Remeber that part about sperate but equal.... It didn't work....

Just because you're excluding a different race this time does not work to promote people together.

And yes, once upon a time, people were divided and blacks were not allowed in miss america contests. So, why do we still need the minority versions? And since you pointed out that the old contest was only whites, and now it is all races, logic dictates that we create a miss white america, right?

Get off your high horse. Racial exclusion is wrong in today's world. There is no need for it in a country like America.

You are starting to make a bit more sense..

And that time wasn't so long ago. When was the first Miss America crowned who wasn't a white woman?

There is historical gravitas behind Miss Black America and a roll of honour that should be maintained to remind people why there was a Miss Black America in the first place. Why should history be swept under the carpet because it makes YOU uncomfortable. But if you want to make a Miss White America just out of spite - you can if you want - who is stopping you?

I'm tired of this. You can continue if you want, I can tell you are one of "those" people. Have a good day.
