What's a good, cheap country to do my jobhunting in?

I'm an SMOE teacher. I've read on this board about a lot less GEPIK positions being cut back next year and since I am an eternal pessimist I wouldn't be surprised if the same happened with SMOE. To me, paying two teachers to be in one classroom at the same time is something that can't exist long in a bad economy. I'm in an elementary school - I don't think it's necessary to have a native teacher to teach expressions like "I want to ____"

So, in the event I lose my job, or don't get renewed, or whatever, I'm trying to think of a good place to jobhunt for a future position in Korea, Japan, China, Vietnam, or elsewhere (I'm pretty open to ideas). Going home is not an option as it's way too expensive there.

Basically I'm interested in a place that would have cheap living costs, a long tourist visa for an American, and enough infrastructure so I can get things like my documents in order. Should I camp out in a goshiwon in korea or go elsewhere?

Keep in mind I also said a good place to jobhunt - internet access and the like. Cheap is not the only factor.

Well if you go to Nigeria and help a pc scammer write some phishing scams, he'd probebly give you around an hour a day free personal internet time... Laughing

Just joshing...

Thailand would be good. Phillipines from what I've heard is more expensive and more rip offs than Thailand... Vietnam cheap but lacks the same ammount of tourist friendly infrastructure...

TBH you could find a place in Bangkok for like 200 - 300 baht a night to stay eat on less than that a day and plenty of cheap pc rooms on Koh san road...

Don't be under any illusions about the cost of living in Thailand, especially Bangkok. It is expensive--unless you want to live like a Thai, which ain't easy when you fly solo. However, if you want to live in a small Thai town, it can be relatively cheap. Thailand is cheaper than Laos, though. Try Cambodia or a smaller Chinese city if you must stay in Asia. Vietnam pays well and once you get to know your neighborhood after you've settled in, you should be able to find decent Vietnamese shops that won't try to rob you blind.

This is a good site for the cost of living in Thailand:

I'd try Ukraine but not Kyiv (unless you live on the outskirts in a nice big "korean" style rabbit hutch. Or even Central Asia. High Internet speeds, relatively low cost and low cost of living.
