Howdy.
I'm in GEPIK, and I have a pretty good relationship with my school. Lately they've been putting off my re-signing a contract, which is up the end of December. I figured this was just standard Korean putting crap off. I have a handshake deal with the principal, who approached me, asking if I wanted to come back.
Then, I see a fill-in-the-blanks letter on the screen of one of my co-teachers, informing someone that they don't have a job next year.
This is after negotiating some terms, and even at length (I wanted to move out, they didn't want that, I caved) and they even confirmed the standard 100k won/month raise.
What the hell? The teachers keep insisting it's their decision, and won't tell me what made them change their minds.
I'm baffled. Anyone ever experience this? I'm not a great teacher, but I care, and I'm friendly with the kids.
Most importantly, I have repeatedly been told or asked about coming back next year.
What the hell? |

The school HAVE to give you 60 days notice.
If you have 60 days or less - demand an answer - they know themselves if they want you to stay and the chances are you are going home.
Maybe not - but if you have two months in - they have to give you an anwser - what I do know is all my mates who were re-signed had the done deal well before the final two months - good luck!  |

| Yes I know they have to give me 60 days' notice. The thing is I'd been told repeatedly that I had the job months ago, and only found out by chance that I might not have it for next year! |

If you are 60 days in now - they have to give you an anwser - yes or no! Not - well we might - are you 60 days from leaving now? |

So on November the 1st at 8.30 am - demand an appointment with the principal - he has to give you an anwser there and then, it is in your contract.
Look for a poster called 'from the UK' he had re-signing shennanigans of this nature - they may want to re-sign you but in my experience - they probably won't if they are leaving it to the 60 day mark - good luck anyway - I hope you get the answer you want off them.  |

| I know at my school one of the teachers had to ask if he was being renewed and it was at the 60 day mark. They told him no, and he was saddened, as he thought that the students liked him. He is in his 50's. I guess that they are able to be picky. |

I wouldn't be looking him up for advice. 
Actually, he's probably the last person I'd be checking with.
Perhaps if you're looking for some tips on how to increase the toxicity of your relationship with your co-teacher and your school, you might refer to some of his threads. |

Sorry, to hear the news mate.
I wouldn't take it personally. The Ks wouldn't know a decent teacher if it bit them on the arse and screamed 'Issac Durst'
If you are waiting till the last moment though it is never a good sign - good luck with future jobs! Korea or elsewhere! |

The person making the decision as to wether renew U or not is probably the one who knows you the least and has barely if ever seen you teach...the principal. 
You might have taught your kids the encyclopedia backwards but it will make no diff. if you've committed some sort of non-confucian faux pas in the brief 2 seconds of talking with the Principal over the cause of a year.... |
