we are still being asked to come to school and do desk warming. Is anyone else being asked to do the same thing? Apparently Korean teachers have to come to school as well, so I'm not certain if I should complain just yet... so having some feedback from other teachers in a similar situation would be nice.

Keep in mind that we are being asked to teach more days than we would have otherwise during winter time due to this schedule change. Regardless, we'll still get two weeks off for winter vacation.

You don't really have anything to complain about. In theory you would be desk warming in the winter anyway. It's not affecting your contract in any way.

My school was shut down for three days last week. I didn't have to work any of them. All of the Korean teachers had to come in for one day for meetings and such, but then the principal decided that only homeroom teachers needed to deskwarm for the remaining two days. So in my case, not even the K-teachers had to desk warm unless they were a homeroom teacher.

15% of the students at my school are absent, yet the princpal refuses to close. Apparently parents have been calling the school and requesting that the school NOT close

Try to talk some of the male teachers to go for Samgyup sal and soju. You'll have a good time and learn how the system works

OP,

My husband's school stopped the 1-3 grades from coming in last week, but the Korean staff had to come and desk warm. This week grades 4-6 are off,and both my husband and the Korean staff are all desk warming. There has been no talk of making up any classes, though he may simply have been left out of the loop about this so far.

I believe we are doing our jobs, were here to teach English to the students. If there are no students to teach then we must stay in school and warm a desk......nonsense, we should be sitting at home with our feet up watching korean dramas.

Our jobs are to fit into the English education system within our individual schools or government region.
The Korean-English teachers have the task of teaching English, ours may be to help develop conversation, cultural and pronunciation skills. Some Korean-English teachers can do this to a degree, but a native-speakers input is always valuable and trustworthy.

The point is that we are being paid and if the boss says come to school there really isn't much room for debate. I guess it never hurts to ask but I wouldn't want to put myself in a position where they thought I was angling for some free days off.

The job is already uniquely easy (compared to that of a Korean teacher) and if it requires coming in for the sake of appearances then I'm OK with it.

Deskwarming ain't that bad. Just bring in some tv shows or movies on your flash drive and relax.
