|
|
I've wanted to play this game for a loooong time. I played Fallout 1 and 2 back in the day, and ever since I saw gameplay of #3 it's really enticed me.
My two options would be a console or PC. I have neither (I'm on a laptop now). What would be the most economical way to do this? I don't know about buying a PC and monitor just to play this game, and maybe a few others (GTA4), but what kind of rig would I need and what kind of coin am I looking at?
I have a TV but it's not an HDTV. If I play this game, I want to get the full experience, and I know if I hooked up an Xbox360 to a regular TV it's not doing it justice. Hell, I've hooked up an Xbox to my set and I could barely read the text in the menus. I've seen some 32" HDTV's on sale in the Buy/Sell section going for ~$450, so would that plus a $300 Xbox be cheaper than the PC route? |

Minimum Req:
NVIDIA GeForce 6800 256MB
2.4 Ghz Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent processor
1024 MB memory
Recommended Req:
ATI Radeon 3800 series 512MB
Intel Core 2 Duo processor
2048 MB memory
Also you could always buy a 360 and a monitor. I play my 360 on a computer monitor and it looks pretty good. |

ahh ok sorry bout that. You know honestly I think most basic laptop/desktop setups will run it fine as long as it has a decent video card. |

Any run of the mill PC you'd buy in Hi-mart or Homeplus should be able to run that game by now - so a hassle-free 800,000 won.
Or of course almost anything in Yongsan should definitely be able to play it well. If you're not well versed in buying computers than you might want to try a safer/more expensive route through one of the department stores.
I love that game! |

You can play it on pretty much max settings on an 8800GT. I play most of my games at a PC bang with decent computers, cheaper and less life consuming than spending 1million on my own PC.
TBH you can run it on a 7600gt on high settings and that's the lowest specced PC i've found at a PC bang. |

You can find an off-the-peg PC in Sun-in-Plaza, Yongsan, for around 700,000 (without monitor) which will play all the current games on high or maybe medium settings.
As already said, the important factor is the video card.
For Fallout 3, I wouldn't buy less than an ATI HD4850 (or HD5770) or an Nvidia GTX260. They will comfortably play Fallout 3 at highest settings. |

The PC version is far, far better than the console version, although that's basically true of every game.
If your laptop is fairly new, you should try to run the game and see how it goes.
Basic gaming rig will cost you 800,000, less if you can build it yourself.
Good luck, it's a brilliant game! |

Cheers for the info guys. I've built a few PC's on my own but it's been about 5 years - I've been out of the loop on what's on the up and up for the same amount of time. My laptop is about 2 years old and I know for a fact it won't run it.
I did consider going the PC-bang route. How effective would installing the game on my external HDD be, and then hooking it up visa USB to the PC-bang computer? |

Well that's what I did, but for fallout 3 it's not actually painless. You have to install the windows live redistribution, edit a registry setting and your saves go into my documents on the PC you're using. I've made the mistake of playing for a fair few hours, then going home and forgetting about the saves. If you're a regular at a PC bang and can get the same PC 9/10 it's pretty simple once it's set up.
The registry setting just needs to point to the letter of the drive that FO3 is on, the problem is that between PC's it can be a different letter. If you're struggling to get it set up I can email you the .reg file and tell you what to change. Your best bet though is installing the game while on the PC that you're most often going to play on, but install it onto your USB HDD.
The more I think about it the more I remember how much of a ballache it was :/ |

I'm very happy with my LG M2794D-PM. Full HD, 27 inch...costs anywhere around 400K - 600K KRW depending on where you get it. PC방 are hit or miss because Koreans don't play many new FPS games, (Sudden Attack or CS aren't graphics demanding) they can get away with scrimping on the machine specs. |

If you're thinking about this game, hold off until the PC patch. It's buggy as hell, I lost all my skill points on 6 seperate characters. |
