My friend and I were out on Halloween and some older Korean guys stopped us and were talking to us and the one guy grabbed my camera and had some middle school girl take a picture of my friend and I with him and the other guy. The creepy part is he somehow tracked down my friend and called her school this morning to have her call him back so she can meet up with him and give him a copy of the picture |
frightening enough, that doesn't surprise me! |

You're only 29? Sheite, I am older than you. Maybe you just don't have a sense of humor. The OP wasn't exactely about asault, but more about a creepy guy.
It was mildly entertaining in my books!

I don't find things like this funny, I have my reasons. This weird creepy pervert stalker crap that comes out of a completely occluded sexuality in this culture is really dangerous to women. It also happens elsewhere, but for other reasons. |
So since you were victimized the rest of us are not allowed to amuse ourselves and must live in a constant state of fear of saying the wrong thing in that our attempts at humor might awaken your trauma?
|
It's a bad joke. Why are you afraid of hearing that? What's wrong with you?

So what? That's like raping somebody and saying "I was trying to get laid". |

Yeah, but how on earth could they track her down without identifying information? That really is creepy. |

Maybe he called all the schools in the area and said her description from the photo. Either that or he accessed some sort of database from immigration? Scary, though! |

It's happened to me quite a few times in Itaewon and here in Daejeon and I look Korean...
It always happens the same way...
They start talking to me, I stare back completely blank (I speak a decent amount of Korean and I know what they are saying, but when faced with a situation like this, I feign ignorance of the language). Some back off, some talk to me in English.
I remember one time one guy was SO PERSISTENT, I got a bit scared and walked to the nearest police station, told a police inside in my then-broken Korean what the deal was, they went out, found the guy and told him to back off. The officers were really nice and took me home in a police car.. ha.
But you know this isn't just a Korea thing. It happened to me in London, on Oxford Street, too.. you kinda learn to deal with it.. |

"Do you live alone?" isn't exactly a standard question for a casual dating approach. Creeeeeeeepy.
That's like being at a club and asking a girl, "Are you going to be walking to your car by yourself later?" |
My favorite creepy line was always "I don't want to hurt you..." |

Think about it from a man's perspective. Reverse the roles. You see a gorgeous looking man and you definitely want to get to know how him or at least talk to him. Assume he's this Daniel Henny of a man with gorgeous eyes and firm chin. Hot figure and ass to boot. |

What's the matter with you?
It's called TRYING TO GET A DATE. |
I was quite obviously walking away from this guy and giving him short answers. Not to mention that I had already told him I had a boyfriend. I did say that I was trying to give the guy the benefit of the doubt but I have to say, the signs saying "not interested" are pretty much the same in any language. Running away is one of them. Once again, I was in an isolated area of the park and had a strange man following me persistently and asking me if I lived by myself.
There is a huge difference between saying, "So...you live alone?" to someone you have already made a connection with who has a mutual interest in you - maybe someone you've met out and have spent some time talking with- and calling, "You live alone?" after the woman you just happened upon in an isolated section of the park who is walking away from you at a rapid pace.
Think of it as the difference between saying "Susie, I love you!" as you wave good bye to her at the train station, and saying "Susie, I love you!" as you wave goodbye to her at the train station and douse yourself with gasoline. |

i think it takes effort, but if there's not many foreigners in her area, it's hard for people not to notice her. he got the information from someone. at my first place, i once had a man and his young son show up at my door completely out of the blue. i'd never seen him before and he wasn't a nearby neighbour (maybe somewhere in the building). he already knew a foreigner lived there and wanted me to tutor his son. people talk, especially about foreigners. |

Women living in Korea need to be alert, especially foreign women.
The south african women was raped even though her apartment was like on the 8th floor or something.
The rapist was spying on her for awhile and knew that she lived alone, when she returned home, etc.
That guy you saw wasn't fishing for a date, he's either a perv or a rapist.

I'm 50% with Mayorgc on this one.
Don't freak out but be very cautious as I mentioned before.
Regard all the male posters saying he was just trying for a date as simmilar to 14 year old school boys. |

| this will also sound paranoid, but remember that if you live on the first floor or a walkway looks into your apartment or you're close to the building next door, you might want to start leaving the curtains closed all the time. you can tell a lot about who lives in an apartment by looking at what's in their place. ie. if there's a man who frequently stays overnight, or a dog living there. |
