If I want to pursue a career in teaching English as a second language, and potentially have other career possibilities in the future, which masters degree would be best?
MA in Linguistics
MA in English
MA in Education
MA in Tesol
In the future I would consider teaching at international schools in other countries, or possibly opening my own school in the states. Any recommendations? And if I chose one of the first three, would it be better to combine it with a Celta? |

If you want to continue teaching in foreign countries - the MA Tesol is the best bet. I have a Med in Ed and that's good, but not as good as if I had a Tesol. |

I agree that the MA Tesol is probably the best and most versatile degree for ESL, although you are committing yourself to ESL in doing so. My MA is in English and it allowed me to teach university in Korea as well as permitting entry to an English PhD.
If you have an interest in running a school someday, you might try to work in some educational administration courses or even a business course. MA degree programs often are pretty flexible in letting you include your own interest areas. |

I would say get an MA in a science or engineering field because you can get a great job back home or still teach English in Korea! |
