Anyone know a good, honest, reasonably priced computer guy?
Yeah, I don't know much about computers.
I want to:
-Switch my computer from Korean to English
-Get rid of vista and get XP
-Basically wipe my hard drive and start over
-Install a new fan (at least thats what I think I need).

Find a torrent of XP, burn it to a disk. Restart your computer and hold whatever button it says to enter BIOS (usually F2). In BIOS, go to the BOOT settings. Check to see that it will be booting from your cd/dvd drive first. You'll figure this out fairly quickly, I hope. Save and exit. Put the xp disk in the cd/dvd drive. It'll say "Press any key to boot from disk" There is no "any" key - don't look for it - just press "Enter." Let it cook.
Boom, XP in English.
The fans literally just unplug and are super easy to replace. What makes you think you need a fan? |

When I start my computer, it makes a loud sound. Not the normal humming but like it's laboring to get going (if that makes any sense).
BTW: Thanks for the info, I think I may just try doing the XP on my own. Doesn't sound too difficult. |

I think it's the fan from what you're describing. It's a long whining noise right? It could be your fan being clogged from all the dusts that has gathered or it's close to dying.
If it's just clogged just get a vacuum or get a air canister and clean it. If its not dusts, it's time to replace it. Like Ladron said it's easy to replace. |

Better to use the air canister to blow the dust out. A vacuum can generate computer-killing static electricity. |

True. I believe thats why a graphics card stopped working on me a couple of years ago..........
.............in saying that, I still use a vacuum!!
I think there's a much higher chance in the dry air of Winter to cause static in your PC. If you humidify your apt, you should be okay. |
