Found one thread here that had no information about it but was requesting some.

Anybody work in the teacher-training section? What is it like?

i don't know about the teacher training part but i know someone working there, teaching the students....he likes the teaching part (and how they rotate new students in, etc) but socially it's pretty isolated and everyone's up in each other's business...
it's a pain for him to get into seoul and he doesn't do it as much as he hoped to....

Thanks.

The Seoul part is a problem for me. I want to do volunteer work with NK Human Rights-related NGOs, and they are in Seoul.

I thought Gapyeong might be OK, because now that I'm back in Korea, in Wonju, visiting my wife's family, I've made a few trips into Seoul, and it seems significantly better than when I taught here over 10 years ago.

Back then, a trip to Seoul from Wonju could take 1 1/2 to 3+ hours depending on traffic. This time around, the 3 or 4 roundtrips I've made have all taken the standard 1 1/2 hours - thanks I guess to the road construction work done over the years.

That almost makes working in Wonju worth it in terms of being able to get into Seoul for some of the NK-related activities.

But, if it takes more than that from Gapyeong, I'd probably turn the job down - because it is also a small town...

I can just see the guy in a suit talking about the beautiful scenery and nice fresh air. On the positive side you're close to a really cool place called
Kangcheon. A river going through mountains

Been there done it. Try to get an apartment in Gapyoung Up(downtown) at least it would be close to the train station. There's a direct train to Cheongyanri in Seoul.

Warning- Sometimes teacher training centeres have Dormitory housing. If they do they tend to be small with very little of your own private life. Like living in a Goldfish bowel. On the positive side you get to party a lot with your teacher trainee's. On the negative side. Watch your back especially if you like to date Korean women.

I have been to told, annoying since I was looking forward to having a day off on that because my school is closed on that day. my co teacher has offered to drive me there so I can leave after an hour or so. I might do that or just get really drunk the night before and go very hung over.
