The Yamanote Halloween "parties" are really just an excuse for maladjusted westerners in Tokyo to drink in public and harass the Japanese people around them. This incident was really quite foreseeable.

I agree. You don't behave like that when you're a guest in a foreign land.

Actually, Japan's population is much closer to being 130 million.

But let's not forget the fact that this is a sign of japanese people getting really sick of foreigner bullshits. Wink

No it isn't. A few random crackpots does not = "japanese people". If you were talking about Asian immigrants (esp. zainichi) I might agree, but Western people are definitely considered to be on an equal footing by most Japanese. Deal with it.

Yes, there are definitely some loser foreigners in Japan too... Just not as many, thankfully. I agree those Yamanote parties are pretty disrespectful, but I don't think most people are even aware they exist...

From what I've seen the foreigners in japan are at times openly disrespectful of Japan. maybe the Japaenese are almost too tolerant. You got a trainload of twentysomethings who don't know that you're supposed to act a touch better-behaved when in a foreign land....because whatever you do tends to stand out that much more.

I dunno, I've seen a bit of it (mainly isolated to places like Roppongi), but I find it to be actually quite rare... I live in Bangkok, but spend much of my time in Tokyo, and they're like night and day. I account for it being the price difference. Tokyo is just way too expensive for your average drunken miscreant to take advantage of (unlike Bangkok). It's also just supply and demand - since the wages and living standard are much higher, the low level riff raff who just want to teach English to pay for drinking and a debauched lifestyle don't usually last long, whereas in other parts of Asia they'll hire just about anyone. Korea falls in the middle (but I find there's more animosity there than in Thailand). Most people seem to get on quite well in Japan and respect the culture, but there are exceptions of course.

HAHAHHAHAHAHA!!!! Laughing Laughing

Dude, you are either a misguided naive fool or completely oblivious to the current condition of japan's attitude on white/colored foreigners.

BTW, no one is talking about zainichi or chinese immigrants, or any other asian immigrants, don't try to change the subject.

It's so funny to see you personally kissing japan's ass.

Priceless.

Reminds me of Jackass the movie.

I mean its 20 somethings and you take 20 somethings of any ethnicity and get them liquored up and dumb crap happens, but still, come on.

It's behavior like that that pushes people into the AES or the JAES or whatever it is. I mean if you were one of the Japanese people who rode that line and got harassed I think your attitude would change.

Yeah, sometimes we aren't the saints that we all claim to be.

As an aside- What's with all the Protestant v. Catholic whathaveyou? Youth group spends more time talking about the problems with Catholic Doctrine than other religions. I've heard more anti-Catholic superstition here than anywhere else. Great, as soon as this country is reunified it will split again, only along Christian lines.

Whatever. Sounds like just another troll from "asiafinest.com" (or maybe Komerican's sock?) trying to come on Dave's to show off, stirring up non-existent anti-Japanese and anti-White sentiment. The embarrassing over-usage of "hahaha"s and "lol"s says it all. Typical.

For the record, I'm actually half-Japanese (though born and raised in the US), can speak it pretty well, and have spent a lot of time there. Many of my friends are Japanese. I have a pretty good idea of how things are there. You can pretend you know what you're talking about with people on here who have little or no experience with Japan, but I definitely know better.

So, you are one of those half breeds? That's fine.

Just because you are a half-japanese [Mod Edited to take out slur], and spent a lot of time in japan, you can tell what japanese people think? That's quite a skill you got there. Laughing

It's funny when you get offended thinking I try to bring up a subject that seems to bash japan, which I am not, and yet, most of people here seems completely fine with bashing korea all the time. Funny, yet, ironic.

BTW, I've talked with lot of japanese university students and they say completely opposite things from what you say. They say western foreigners act like bunch of jackasses, from their experiences. Although I've only been to japan for only few months, I tend to get my informations from people who were actually born and raised there.

Excuse my lack of grammar skill. Razz

If you're Asian, maybe it's unwise to laugh at visitorq for being part Japanese. After all, the Japanese fathered a lot of children in the red portion of this map: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_8ns7umlix-c/SeH0HG7duVI/AAAAAAAAA-U/a84dnqvqkB4/s400/map-japan.gif

Anyway, I can understand why the locals in Asia get pissed at foreigners. We're not good at holding our liquor, so we get really loud and obnoxious as a result. I've even seen foreigners, presumably from the big mosque on Hooker Hill, looking annoyed by the loud, drunk Westerners in Itaewon.

I'm guessing you'll get banned fairly soon, so not much point replying to you further. Till then, have fun pretending to know about Japan (as if you've even been there - keep that dream alive).

Why would I get banned? I didn't disobey the forum rules or anything.

If you were actually personally offended by my sarcastic post, that's your problem.

I've seen plenty of racial sarcastic posts in this board.

BTW, you asked for it.
