It is just one week before 2012 hits the silver screan. My question, What is the best 'End of World movie'? Do you think 2012 will be the best? Personally after watching 'Knowing' I have very low expectations for the movie. Pole attached.

The Japanese movie "Pulse" was good, as was the TV version of "The Stand".

"I am Legend" or its precursor, "The Omega Man", just for old times sake.
I also liked the Twilight Zone (or was it Outer Limits) where the bookworm who works at the bank is saved because he hides in the vault to read. I won't write the spoiler....

I liked Hitch-hiker's Guide to the Galaxy better than the films on your list. Still not sure if it's the best "end of the world" film though.

28 Days Later is pretty much the best movie of the bunch in any aspect. I Am Legend should have been on the list for sure (the original ending much preferred over the alternative one). Why is Wall-E not there?

Edit: Forgot to mention the original Planet of the Apes and its first sequel. Basically an end of the world after the end of the world movie. The final scene of the first part is classic!

Edit: Must.Learn.To.Concentrate! The final scene of the sequel is of course also classic!

The War of the Worlds really lends itself to someone, anyone writing a great script and making a fantastic film out of it. Unfortunately, the Tom Cruise film was awful.

I went for 28 Days Later for the same reasons as the people have posted above.

I don't know about the book but the Director's cut has Will Smith and the two others survive, and head for the hills.

In the Omega Man, Charlton Heston dies in a Christ-like pose in a fountain. Apparently there was another film with Vincent Price - The Last Man on Earth, in 1964.

After looking here I learned more: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Omega_Man
