What do you guys do during the day when you have nothing else to do at school?

I am supposed to look busy for 2-3 hours a day, meaning, I can't sit with a book or watch a movie or something on the PC. Any ideas?

I was caught studying Korean once so they don't want me doing that either. I have just been on ESL Cafe mostly - they think I am gathering teaching materials.

Arghh...

Write a novel? Go on lots of message boards? That's pretty much what I do all afternoon.

They took issue with you studying Korean? My school loves it when I study Korean, and a good case can be made that studying the Korean language can assist you in your teaching responsibilities. Being able to understand whatever grammar construct or vocabulary you're teaching in Korean really can make lessons easier.

Do you have a teachers' resting room? Go there and study or if you have your own classroom go there.

most schools don't like the teachers using ANY korean language at all!!
and I mean ANY! I once used the word READ in korean 읽어봐 becuase the child was new and didnt understand a lick of English so to speed things along I used that korean word and also in English so he knew what I was saying.....
MAN O MAN! I got grilled for an hour on why I must not speak in Korean to the students! the mother rang the school! the director pulled me into the office... all because of one word! A FREAKIN WORD!!

some directors are complete tools! others are not..

Wow, that's crazy. I get encouraged quite strongly, and ample positive reinforcement is applied when I integrate some Korean into the lesson. That said, I work at a public school, and it sounds like your bad experiences were at a 학원 if you were having trouble with a "director."
