I don't know what I can search to get this information, though I feel like I have come across some discussion on it [feel free to link me to other posts!]

I'm fairly active outside of work here in the US- I've done volunteer groups, running clubs, go to charity events, etc. and hope to keep busy in my spare time by socializing with others (I don't care if its other foreign ESL teachers or Korean nationals, as long as it's a mostly English speaking group) , whether it be a writing or book club, pickup sports games, etc.

I think I heard that volunteering as a foreigner in SK is not advised because it may technically be a violation of the E2 Visa? (despite the fact it would definitely be unpaid)

Habitat for Humanity for charity groups, and Toastmasters for social groups are the first two that popped into my mind. Both are very active in Korea. Google is your friend for more details. If you get stuck, PM me and I can see what I can dig up.

Appreciate the responses- thanks a bunch. I've done Habitat before at home and I've heard of Toastmasters as well. That HOPE website looks very cool also.

Toastmasters is great. I'm a member of a club in Seoul. It has improved my presentation skills and greatly increased the personal and professonal networks I'm in.

actually, i was going to start a thread about this. I taught in a gyeonggi city last year and had a really tight knit group of friends from the get-go so it was great. But now im in Gangnam. and definately having a way tougher time meeting people. It seems like most of the young guys around here are cool, but have one track minds. I have a GF in my old city, plus im not interested in going to Itaewon and Hongdae all the time. I always thought that it would be so much easier meeting people in gangnam which is foreigner central, but it hasnt been the case for me. I find people here already have their own agendas and things to do. I was trying to search out things like book clubs and writers clubs because thats what I studied in school and I really would like to get back into it. I also like boxing, kickboxing and hiking. Im actually pretty open to anything. Does anyone have any suggestions to save me from my boring life?
