Are you at a college or university? Does the small city have five letters? The description you've written sounds a lot like a job I applied to and didn't get

1. University
2. 6 letters in its name.

I have an MA and a years teaching experience in Korea. I am thinking of going back over in mid January to try and find a uni job (I've heard its pretty tough from outside the country). Do you think I'm cutting the time a bit short? I would be looking to teach in Seoul and must assume there would be more competition....

It is, indeed, difficult to get a university job outside of the country.

Most schools begin classes end of Febrary or beginning March.

Most university jobs will be filled by mid-January. You might stand a chance to get a job if someone backs out at the last minute but that's nothing to count on.
