These things happen. Agree about the "attempted murder" charges for sure. |

Attempted murder? So if you get in argument and push someone and they fall and hit their head and die, you're a murderer? You guys do realize being charged with attempted murder means "intent to kill"? I am skeptical the boss meant to kill him by throwing something at him. |

In addition to this official record, some 183,000 illicit foreign workers are said to reside in Korea. It is estimated that 530,000 or more foreign laborers are working in industrial workplaces, according to the Immigrant Workers Labor Union.

ohh yeah korea wants you when there are no problems and they dont try to deport you while on the job! because they know trying to find 200.000 koreans to do those jobs will be impossible! but get into any kind of trouble and well, DEPORTED! LOL...Korea sparkling!
illegal or not.. labor workers have rights..
I guess in Koreas eyes they don't!
I wonder if the tables were turned and in USA if illegal workers were mistreated they would cry foul!??
ohh thats right, the ones mistreating the Koreans in USA are Koreans! |

I think they were thinking "involuntary manslaughter." Either way, a guy who throws a heavy metal object at you during an argument is a gigantic douche.
I remember several years ago seeing a newsreport where they sneaked in cameras to some of these factories and some of the Korean bosses were punching the illegal workers in the face and ranting about how people from "poor" countries should just do as they're told. They know illegal foreigners have no sort of power, much less legal recourse, so they can treat them like shite. It sucks because these workers are just trying to make a living and they're being treated like they're not even human. |

I don't think Koreans realise the way they are increasingly viewed in S.Asia.These foreign DDD guys go back to their countries and tell everyone how they've been treated.
A Korean guy once told me he was on holiday in Vietnam once when he got cornered by a group of locals. They told him that they had worked in Korean factories and one of them had lost a his hand in a workplace accident, for which he recieved no compensation but was deported. They wanted to beat him up unless he apologised to them and basically begged for mercy
..which of course he did. |

Yes, Koreans basically have a reputation across Asia for being ruthless, chauvinistic alcoholics. I wonder why... |

You mean to tell me, that a group of people blamed a random Korean guy for something that happend to their friend while their friend was employed by a Korean person?
So basically that group blames every Korean person for what happend to their friend.
Well isnt that basically every day here at DavesESLCafe?

Let's switch that around and put "American" or "Foreigner" in the place of "Korean" and you get the sentiment that many Koreans feel about foreigners.
What gets me is that Koreans play the "I'm the victim" game when they are confronted with percieved injustice at the hands of Americans or through alleged abuses by foreigners.
But when it comes to their treatment of 3D workers, they "justify" by saying that they are providing these people with jobs and since some are working illegally in Korea, they don't necessarily deserve rights.
Sometimes, Korean logic baffles me. |

Yeah, it sucks. I feel for the poorer migrant labor, everywhere, but Asia is particularly brutal for them, including Korea. |

I think they just wanted him to know how angry they were with his country and wanted him to apologise on behalf of Koreans. It was in a cul-de-sac/alleyway. They let him go unhurt after telling him their story. |

We hope, but hate and racism tend to breed more of the same. |
