Syria has denied that a cargo ship loaded with hundreds of tonnes of weapons seized by Israel, was transporting Iranian arms to Syria.

The Israeli military says the arms were destined for the Lebanese armed political group, Hezbollah.

"This ship does not carry Iranian weapons to Syria and does not contain military material to manufacture weapons in Syria. This ship carries imported goods from Syria to Iran," Walid al-Moallem, the Syrian foreign minister, said on Wednesday.

I find it funny that no one wants to accept that it was carrying weapons or involved in the purchase of weapons, but Hezebollah doesnt agree with the piracy.

I agree that snatching a boat in what could be called international waters seems a little iffy, but I guess if it doesn't actually belong to anyone then maybe the Israelis were trying to help some lost sailors.

Israel has released documents and photographs which it says prove that a shipment of weapons it seized in the Mediterranean originated from Iran.

The photographs show containers bearing the logos of Islamic Republic of Iran's Shipping Lines (IRISL). Israel said the containers held 500 tonnes of arms.

Israel also released what it said was a customs form stamped by Iran's army.
