I have given my students 1-2 sticks of Pepero on 11/11. At my new school the former teacher went all out last year and bought boxes for each student and large decorative boxes for other teachers. I think they expect me to do the same. Anyone else in the same boat? |

I`d give a pack if the student gave me. I could never afford to buy enough Pepero for all my students in a hagwon or PS. It's just too many. You shouldn't be expected to live up to your big spending predecessor. Just do what you do for this inane holiday. |

Don't do it - its a waste of money...
"the boxes cost minimum 2,500won each (homeplus) up to the nice, decorative boxes 20,000won each.
11/11 is no different to "Halloween", "Christmas", "Chuseok" or "Seollal"
Its a time for shops to make HEAPS of money selling junk food and destroying the childrens health...
please take care of your students - if you want to spoil them - give them a mandarine or apple each...

If nobody told you about it you could always feign ignorance.
"what? You give candy on Rememberence day?" Lame |

peppero day is the stupidest "holiday" ever conceived. It used to be pretty simple-the kind of day that people often didn't even remember and wasn't advertized in the stores weeks in advance. Now it is absurd. I'm sure you've all seen some of the ridiculous things you can buy, including a plush stuffed peppero. It's a brown and dark brown stuffed stick. All this nonsense over a day named after a brand of snack because hey, a peppero looks so much like the number one. |

Exactly. Just tell them: "I have hundreds of students! You only have ONE English teacher!" |

At Paris Baguette they are now selling those long french baguettes, only dipped in chocolate so they look like a bbebbero. |

I bought about 20 boxes and gave them to my co-teachers and other friendly/cute co-workers.
I got about the same number back. Fun day. |

Just for fun, I got 5 + 1 boxes (5 @ 1,000 Won for the regular girls at my office, 1 @ 5,000 for that cute girl that is working her English skills on me).
Ate one last night because I was soooo hungry!!! (I bought the almond splinter sort, real delicious stuff).
Decided today that I had wanted to have one box for myself anyway (subconscious at work) so I really had the exact amount of chocolate dipped bread sticks on me.
The cute one gave me a huge single Peppero stick with the word "Love" on it before I could give her my present
She's really short sighted though, I better keep her at arm's length lest she'd find out that I'm 20 years her senior
All in all a good day!
BTW and only marginally related, 11/11 is also the official beginning of the carnival season in Germany. I once almost got beaten up by a heavily drunk Australian in Bangkok who was confused about the way we celebrated this day (I didn't know there was any other occasion). He ended up buying our dinner because Australians are a great lot!!! |
