i'd like to be involved. it can be pretty challenging eating here if you don't know what they put in each recipe. who knew they often put coffee in gamja tang?!?! or wheat in gochu jang? i've had to do a lot of research to see what i can eat. count me in!

I recently learnt that I'm allergic to their green version of cantaloupe. Makes me break out in hives but orange ones from back home don't. Anyone else found that?

Yeah but it doesn't have the smooth, greenish white skin. They call it musk melon here and it has cantaloupe scaley skin.

What! Potato stew is kind of a misnomer anyway, but coffee? Weird.

I'd be interested to get involved. I'm currently working the environmental allergies side of things trying to get allergy shots set up. I couldn't find any information on that prior to my arrival, so I would be happy to shed some light on that once the process is in motion.

I tried to make an appointment with an allergist to get tested again for food allergies. The hospital staff looked at me like I was from outer space. Anyone know of one in Seoul?

Count me in too. I'm allergic to shellfish. I'm also a registered dietitian so this subject matter is close to home for me.

Cheers,

They've filled both of my schools with some really pungent flowers. Every day I go in feeling fine, fifteen minutes later I've got a tickle in my throat, I'm sneezing and my nose is running. They keep asking me if I have a cold, I keep telling them no, it's the flowers. From the sounds of our staff room I'm not the only one with this problem either.

amazing---

ive established a forum, and am in the initial stages of populating it by invitation to get the post count up.

people wont often stumble upon an empty forum and simply start posting.

within a day or two, ill post the link and hopefully we can get going from there...

If you have any kind of respiratory allergy, then Seoul is def NOT for you. The air quality is very poor. Consider a smaller city.

Anywhere in this country. Maybe only the small towns in Gangwon-do might be okay, save for the occasional trash burnings by old folks.

I have no idea where to get tested here in Korea. I can say that at a recent conference I attended in the States pointed out the high error rates for skin testing, sometimes greater than 60%. They then pointed people to a second generation of testing called mediator release (MRT) testing. It was noted that it's 93% accurate. I just got the handouts so I'm trying to choke it down.

It may be worth your while to ask around for such testing. Maybe Dr. Love can help direct us in this matter?
