Unlike Scotland in their history you mean? 
Isn't it a disgrace that a country like Australia who has only been in the world cup since 1974 has outdone Scotland who have never ever got past the first round group stages ever?

Just a list of players is required here methinks to demonstrate how wrong that assertion is: Dalglish, Law, Baxter, Bremner, Bett, Johnstone, Greig, McNeill, McGrain, Souness, Jordan, Jardine, Hansen and so on.I'd argue, per size of population, that Scotland have produced more world-class players in football's history than any other country. Besides Kewell, I can't think of any good Australian players (and you certainly couldn't classify Kewell as world-class by any stretch of the imagination)
Whilst we've never really done much in international competitions, we've continually punched above our weight against far better teams. In the last four decades, despite a recent lull, our club teams have continually done well in Europe. Nearly every player I've listed above was a pivotal player for their respective teams in winning the European Cup. |

So why has Scotland not won anything? Why - with all those players in 1954, 1958, 1978, 1982, 1986, 1990, 1998 - never got past the first round in a world cup - with the likes of Morocco, Iran, Costa Rica putting them to the sword -
Your 'per head' argument is crap too - that means India should thrash Australia in the cricket and England should thrash the All Blacks - doesn't work like that - If Scotland were any good they would be beating countries twice their size - the Danes and Uruguay have a record that put Scotland to shame for example.
as they say 'Scotland - good on paper - shit on grass'

I can't think of a decent international result in the world cup other than 3-2 against the Dutch in 1978. I can't think of another time when some minnow hasn't embarrased you.
Your club sides are terrible - we can get the statistics of Rangers and Celtic (perennial Scottish champions) who have been thumped by the weakest teams on the continent and are more or less guaranteed an early exit from Europe.  |

| The thread is about Rugby. Right. Still the All Blacks lost the three games they played against the Springboks in the Tri Nations series. I dunno, but I'd say the Springboks were more motivated to win, and more professional in their approach. Althougjh with out their goal kicker Mortie stein they might not have done so well. |

That's terrible news!
I mean, calling the League side the "Kangaroos" is bad enough, but Wallabies!! naming a team involved in a so called hard contact sport like Union after a bunch of giant hopping rats which Aussie kids think of as cute and want to take home with them is truly pathetic.
I hope to see the Wallabies lose every match they ever play again (well I think that's not hard to do against the Kiwis and the Saffers) in the hope the sport is abolished.
Union reminds me of a game I played in primary school called stacks on, where one kid is "it" and all the other kids try and jump on him for no apparent reason.
The rules and very confusing, and lets face it, where is it really popular? most countries that I can think of that play it have some other sport like soccer (OK football sorry) or their own unique sport such as AFL as the number one winter sport.
What's worse are the characters that play it. I remember the old captain John Eels giving a press conference, what a nanas boy! Sounds as manly as the character Frank Spencer out of Some Mothers Do Have Them...oohh Betty! |

I tried to watch that match but unwisely decided to play the rugby yawnion drinking game with my mates while viewing. You see, everytime the game gets boring, we all skull a beer. Unfortunately, we were all rushed to hospital to have our stomachs pumped before half time. Seriously, when even a legend like Nick Farr-Jones is saying modern rugby has become phenomenally boring and needs to change, something must be wrong with the game Nanna naps to in heaven.
And by the way, what's the deal with the kiwi yawnion woofters' p1ssweak haka? It looked like a jazzercise routine. If your sleep-inducing yawnion players were half the men your league players are, you might even jolt some of the TV audience out of their catatonic death trance. |

I was at this game, it was entertaining though there was a little too much kicking. As a fan of the game I was surprised to see the lack of support for the Wallabies and the overwhelming support for the all blacks. The announcers at the game introduced NZ as the Mighty, Mighty All Blacks and didn't even mention Australia taking the field. This kind of talk for the announcers went on and on, Australia probably felt a little sighted before the game.
On a side note I met Jonah Lomu the night before the game and had a chance to speak with him. Real nice humble guy. Great ambassador for his country and the sport. |

That's the end of Grand Slam for Australia anyway.

Ireland's first game together in over 6 months against a team that has already beaten some of our opponents in the 6 nations in their autumn tour. So it's hardly bad result for us, especially when you consider the soft try we gave away when o'gara gifted the ball away for the opening score.
I don't think we will win the grand slam this year, but England, Wales and Italy won't be much competition. France looked good against south africa and I have a feeling Scotland may surprise us all this year and turn over the welsh and english but might fall short against us and the french.
I think it's between Ireland and france for this years 6 nations and the frecnh might win the grandslam depending on what one of their unpredictable teams turn up on the day. |

I think they got bored after beating the Scots 16 straight.
They were afraid of touching the ball after Thierry Henry incident.
