|
|
I just want to give a shout out that I LOVE Korea for their glasses. Maybe glasses are cheaper in other countries, but I'm in Korea now.
Over the past two days I've bought 3 pairs of glasses (frames, thin lenses, antiscratch) and had my sunglasses lenses replaced, all for less than 300 000 won. I'd be paying over double (possibly even triple) to get the same thing in Canada.
And a trip to the eye doc, less than 8000 won. If I wanted I could have gotten the free tests in glasses shops.
So basically this post is about my love for cheap/reasonably priced eyewear. People who have eye problems can't help it. Finally I'm in a country where I can financially afford to have eye problems (though of course I'd prefer not to have them at all).
I'm sure Lasek is cheap over here too, but until there are long term studies, I'm not going down that road.
I didn't search for a pre-existing topic on this, but I'm sure someone else already posted about their Korean glasses love. |

What language did you use to interact with the people in the glasses shop?
I can't speak Korean. How would i get an eye test, buy glasses (and specifying that i want thin lenses, anti scratch surface etc) if i dont speak the language? Drag a korean speaker in with me? Did your place have an English speaker? |

I agree 100% with this thread.
I actually didn't orignally plan on buying a pair. I was coming back from supper with one of my friends and we passed a glasses store near the back gate of my Uni. She asked if I wanted to check them out since I'd probably not being paying much. So, once we were in, she sort of just spoke to the guy in Korean and boom. Glasses.
I paid 70,000 won for a pair. I've never had that before in Canada. Plus, I also got a free tune-up of the pair of glasses I have now (replaced the screws and nose thingy, cleaned it in special water, etc).
My eye test was free since it was in a glasses shop. Also found out if I want I could get free cases and all that.
I'm probably going to get a pair of prescription sunglasses before I leave as well, since they're only about 100,000 won, which would be 500 bucks in Canada.
So yeah... I'm content. |

Get Lasek 1.8 million and never wear glasses again.
been 10 days since and I have gone from -2 with heavy astigmatism to +0.70 (takes up to 3 months for perfect vision, but they said at the rate my eyes are improving I should be around 0 in two weeks). Fine print is still fuzzy but getting better by the day |

I agree that glasses are cheap and fun to get in Korea.
Here is an old thread I started about glasses in K-land. |

Glasses are cheap. My sister and Bro inlaw go 2 pair each when they visited. I also agree that lasek kicks ass. Best money I ever spent. |

The service is great here for glasses and contacts.
Haven't considered Lasik here, where is the best place for that? |

You will look into a special eye machine and the machine will figure your eyes out. Plus, there's usually someone who speaks enough English who can help.
My experience in Canada was an eye doctor who said I need special glasses (one eye had iritis so not as strong). Made me pay a pile of money for these super strong glasses that gave me a headache and were very heavy.
When I came to Korea, I went to an eye glass shop and the man wouldn't give me glasses. He said my one eye was a little weak but I didn't need glasses. I had eye strain from studying so he finally agreed to sell me the weakest prescription possible for 60,000 won. It was all I needed. Now that I'm not studying, I don't need glasses.
Gawddamned quack in Canada.
My daughter now needs glasses and has to get a new strength every six months or year. We can change just the lenses for 30,000 won. Can't beat it here. And the glasses are so light. |
