I'm going to be re-signing, for a new contract starting mid December, at my middle school in Suwon possibly this week. I remember that last December when I signed with this school, it was just before Gyeonggi raised their pay level for all teachers. So I missed that raise.

Now, I've been in Korea for 2.5 years, plus I have a Masters so......I'm curious what to look for in as to compensation in this new contract I'm going to be getting. I'm leery of having something shoved in front of me which I don't know whether it's the going rate or not.

I'm wondering if this school might have signed me outside of the normal GEPIK channels of recruitment (which I think they did because I got the job through a 'tip' that they had posted a foreign teacher opening on the GEPIK bulletin board/forum).

If that's the case, I don't want to be in a position where they'll say they can't pay me 'scale' because they're not in the GEPIK budget ..or some BS like that.

Now I'm making, I believe, about 2.1 Million DW. I might be 100G off on that. Whatever it is, it's what I got at the time I got this job (at the last minute last year).

I'd appreciate any info ya'll could give me.

Regards,
Art

Well, being off 100g is kind of a big deal when talking about the difference between 100g...

Base salary GEPIK is 2.0. If you are TESOL certified, you start at 2.1. Masters degrees, if I recall correctly, don't mean much unless you have it in education or english or a related field. Anyway, if you're at 2.5 years, middle of your 3rd contract, you should, by my calculation, be making 2.3 mil per month. The pay scale is set so that you advance 100k with each year of service. Again, I don't have my GEPIK book here to cite, but that's what you should be at now, so next year, 2.4 should be in the picture.
