I actually came to Korea at the same time as Jim and spent some time with him in EPIK. We were way way down south and it was an interesting time. This is one of his first published books...lots more work since then. He's a driven and talented guy...if you want to know more about Jim and his work check out: http://nomediakings.org/. K

Jim, if you're out there lurking...hey...you're famous..did you plant that book? I think I might have left my copy somewhere around here. I promise, I bought another one!

Love the way this guy's site is all about fighting big publishing houses etc...

Fine sometimes they monopolise the market (ok all the time) and soemtimes they overlook telant or ignore it due to market forces. I'm with ya, power to the people man! Or at least some of it (I wouldn't want your average Joe deciding who Penguin re-realease in a brand new modern critic's edition this year for example... There is some need for establishments to be elitist you know....)

But the fact is it doesn't ring true that if you can make a good 'Zine' you can write a good book lol....

You can 'make' one, sure. But write one....

Your post reminds me of this: http://www.travistea.com/ A book written incredibly terribly by legitimate authors to expose a crooked publishing company. Some of the author blurbs are hysterical:

"Only a sequel could follow this!" Tina Kuzminski

"Don't fail to miss it if you can!" Jerry Pournelle

"Fascinating. A total subversion of the most fundamental dichotomies of Western literature, in particular good/bad; an autodeconstructing textual engine that poses but never answers the unposable (but in today's world, far too answerable) questions. A full on assault on the centricity of such dominating ideas as quality, consistency, coherence, and that dirty books ought to give me a stiffy." John Barnes

I made a subtle suggestion to one of my family members to the effect that this book should be one of my Christmas presents. Smile
