Hi guys I have a few questions so hopefully I am posting in the right place, apologies if not. I have got a job with Wonderland through Korea Connections in Daejon city. Has anyone here worked for wonderland in daejon or is working there now? It says it's public school but I'm sure they are a private company can anyone shed light? Also the job description says il be in work from 9-5pm is every hour filled with classes or are there breaks? When I arrive is it easy for me to get a
mobile phone contract?
I arrive around the 25th of this month so if your in Daejon and want to show a mixed race Brit around hit me up lol, but seriously I will be looking to meet new people and understand the culture so any help is much appreciated.
Sorry if these questions have been asked before but the search option on my iPhone is disabled.

Have you signed a contract yet? May the lord have mercy on your soul if you have. You probably should have done your research. Horror stories come out of Wonderland schools like there's no tomorrow. It is without a doubt not a public school. You are sure to be in for an *interesting* ride.
The Prisoner of Wonderland book will give you more details:

Wow are they really that bad? Well I don't have any options as have ended my lease of my house and need to out by December 6. How hard is it to leave a job when your out there for another job? Do I get all my documents back, what would be the process when I am out there to change jobs?
This is all worst case scenario if it really is that bad as have read a couple of positive reviews about wonderland too and no negative stories that were within the last two years old. |

There are a lot of Wonderland horror stories out there, but they are all individually owned - so you never know what you are going to get. I worked at a Wonderland in Osan for a year and they treated me very well. But I have heard many stories over the years... |

Dude, relax.
We have been giving you a bad time. Wonderland has had a lot of issues in the past, but they are just certain establishments. You're all signed up and going. Don't worry about it, no need. We were just saying that you should have looked around more before choosing it. Just go there, give it a shot, and enjoy the experience. |

Wonderland is a privately run hagwon. I have worked in a Wonderland in Incheon and I must admit I had a good experience. Now the major factor on whether hagwons are good or bad is all up to the owner. I had a very professional kind lady who took pretty good care of all her foreign english teachers....but then, as the posters above have stated there have been many nightmares at other Wonderland hagwons throughout Korea.
Just cross your fingers and prey you have a good owner...of course, don't be fooled by their nice demeanor at the beginning. That's just their way to lure you in and after a couple of months their true colors show.
Best of luck. oh, and if you enjoy drinking and partying all night, you're in for one hell of a ride ;P going to bed drunk at 5-6am and walking into a classroom of screaming kindergartens at 9:30am is a great idea confirm/deny? |
