Hey,

Just noticed I have only one blank visa page left in my passport and wish to go on holiday over Xmas to either Hong Kong, Shanghai, Thailand, Phillipines or maybe even back home to Ireland. I can send off for another passport now, but no guarantee it will arrive back in time.

I know I will need to get a re-entry permit to leave the country, so that will take up one page. If I go to Ireland I won't need any visa stamps, but do you guys know if visa stamps need to be put in my passport for any of my other possible destinations when only staying for a week?

Also a number of pages in my passport are only half covered. Can they put a new stamp on one of these half used pages, or must a new blank page always be used?

Thanks for your help.

I *always* request them to stamp a page with other stamps on it. I have some stamps in interesting places.. on the corner of a page, on the margin between two pages, on top of other stamps. I actually have a clear passport cover and tuck in my extra blank pages at the back. Most people don't even notice, the ones that do ask why and then usually find the smallest available space to put a new stamp.

I have to get a new passport soon, probably will in January (after my vacation to China and before I need a new visa). I have three blank pages left. For me, it's all those darn full page visas (Cambodia, Laos, China, India, Korean work visas, etc). My next passport I'm going to get the ones with extra pages.

Edit: Shanghai, being in China, will need a full page visa. The other places you mentioned don't need full page visas, just stamps (except maybe for Philippines, I have no idea about visas for travelling there). Also, check to see if you can get pages added. Canadians can't, Americans can, and I have no idea about Irish.

Thanks. If entry exit stamps are acceptable on half empty visa pages then I guess I can wait until after Xmas to order my new passport:) Just can't go to Shanghai, but prob too cold there anyway...

Are you certain that Irish passports can't have pages added to them?

At least American passports - can have pages added anytime, for free (you pay shipping naturally though, if not dropping of). Anyway - with pages added an essentially unlimited number of times. Think of traveling salesman - they can have fold-out style pages added several times at least to effectively make their passport hold 10x the number of stamps and more, I believe. The US embassy of Seoul can do this easily (I did this last year - US passport are horribly short).

So...if you haven't, maybe check if Ireland will do this as well?

I have one page on my passport with, Hong kong, macau, australian and japanese stamps.

All of my pages but one have multiple stamps (other than the e2 and a random australian stamp near the end). Even my re-entry stamp has hong kong and macau stamps on it
