I was pleasantly surprised by this documentary. I assumed it would present a few statistics about iq scores and suggest that race is the dominant factor in intelligence while ignoring other significant factors. Usually when a documentary I haven't heard of pops up here, it's something like Expelled or Zeitgeist.

This, however presented a fairly well thought out discussion on the factors and influences on success in modern school systems.

As for race, this nonsense about three or five races is pretty ridiculous. This is also why I find it annoying when someone says, It's not racist, it's nativist or ethnist or any other arbitrary term. East Asians appear different from South East Asians and Pacific Islanders. Africans appear different from Aborigines and Maoris. North American Indians appear different from South American Indians.

And the genetic differences within these arbitrary subgroups are greater than the differences between the different subgroups.

The scientific definition of species is pretty arbitrary and tends to have exceptions. Why would a definition of race, which is subject to considerably more cultural and genetic jumbling be any more exact?

Hate to sound like a damned apologist here, but the Nobel prize is given in Sweden - if it were given by a Korean-based organization do you think anyone but Koreans would win it? Also, scholarship and literature that is published in English, or at least in a European language, will attract the attention of the Nobel committees far more than works published in Asian languages. Finally there are many East Asians who win international awards (I don't know about Nobel prizes per se) for work done at Western universities. The fact is that the literature and scholarly work produced in this part of the world has historically received little attention in the West. I'm not suggesting in the least that East Asians deserve to win more Nobel prizes - just that work here gets less attention in the West than work produced at Western institutions. Basically, geographic distribution of Nobel prize winners is a poor indicator of national intelligence

So........minus copying technology, theory and progression from modern western civilization, what exactly does Asia have to show for......awards (and NOT copying their/his/her work)?

By the way, there are only three races......................caucasion, black and oriental.

Koreans are not a race.
Japanese are not a race.
Swedes are not a race.

hispanics?

I refrain from the school of thought that middle eastern is the same as "asian"; too much difference.

Caucasian, Black, Asian, Indian, Hispanic, Native American.

How are Hispanics a "race"? How are Indians separate from other Asians?

LOL.
